Oregon woman goes to therapy at her lowest point, but her therapist allegedly spends sessions vaping and discussing strip clubs instead of her trauma

The therapist reportedly lost her license over this

A woman from Oregon who goes by Kay on TikTok has shared her experience of seeking therapy during what she described as the worst period of her life, only to allegedly find herself more distressed after her sessions than before. The video, posted on her account @kay73322, has received over 1.6 million views, more than 211,000 likes, and nearly 4,000 comments.

Kay said she decided to seek help after reaching what she called her lowest point emotionally, noting that she had previously been on the maximum dose of depression medication. After weeks of research, she said she found a therapist she initially felt good about. “She created such a safe environment but was also super chill and casual, which made it seem like easy for me to talk about things,” Kay said in the TikTok video.

However, Kay claimed the sessions quickly took an unusual turn. According to her account, within the first two minutes of their initial session, the therapist grabbed her hand and said, “Oh honey, I’m diagnosing you right now,” after Kay mentioned she had never been diagnosed with PTSD before.

The alleged misconduct that Kay says led to her therapist losing her license

Kay said the original plan was to meet once a week, but over the course of roughly six months, she and the therapist met only about four times in person and twice online, allegedly because the therapist canceled frequently. She noted that she herself would have been fined for canceling, while the therapist faced no such consequences.

According to Kay, one of the first signs that something was wrong was that the therapist appeared to be typing on her computer during sessions without meaningfully engaging with what Kay was sharing. She claimed that when she would open up about her trauma, the therapist would respond with generic questions like, “What self-care can you do for yourself?” rather than working through the issues Kay had come to address.

Kay said things escalated when, during a session about her 21st birthday plans, the therapist brought up the topic of strip clubs and spent approximately 40 minutes discussing her personal enjoyment of them. “I’m not kidding, 40 minutes talking about how much she loves them, how it’s her favorite thing to go do with her partner,” Kay said, adding that her own trauma was never brought up during that session.

The therapy office later moved the therapist to an online-only format, Kay said, because she had not been coming into the office regularly enough. During a subsequent online session, Kay alleged the therapist joined the call five minutes late, appeared to be walking outside, and was using a vape pen. Kay said the therapist spent a large portion of that session complaining about her employer rather than focusing on Kay’s concerns. “I was her therapist. She was ranting to me the whole time,” Kay said.

During that same session, Kay said she brought up her body insecurities, which she said were connected to a history of an eating disorder. She alleged the therapist responded by suggesting, “Have you experimented with your partner watching p-? Because it might help with your insecurities, because sometimes men just get tired at looking at all that.”

Kay said she was in disbelief at the comment, since her concerns were about how she viewed her own body. She said she sobbed after the session ended. In another case, a woman needed therapy after a three-week coma where she believed years had passed.

After that session, Kay said she contacted the therapy office to report what had happened. She said the office staff asked her to be “as descriptive as possible” about the therapist’s conduct, as they claimed to have already sensed that something was wrong.

According to Kay, the office did not charge her for any of her sessions. She was also advised to file a report with the state of Oregon. A similar dispute involved an Oregon family suing a care home after staff allegedly let their relative with a compulsive eating disorder sneak out.

Kay said she attempted to see a different therapist at the same office, but the new therapist informed her that almost no notes had been taken during her previous sessions, including nothing about the trauma she said she had shared.

After that discovery, Kay said she left a second report with the office and has not returned to therapy since. She stated in the video, however, that she is currently “doing the best I’ve ever been.” The original therapist allegedly lost her license as a result of the reported complaints.

The video drew almost 4000 comments at the time of writing. One commenter joked: “Was Michael Scott your therapist”, referring to the famous The Office character played by Steve Carell. Kay replied,” I genuinely think i would have had a better time with him.” The accused ex-therapist didn’t publicly address Kay’s claims yet.
