‘Every one knows this is wrong’: The ‘unreal’ truth about the next Homeland Security chief just leaked and Nancy Mace won’t let it go

Of course, after Noem, Trump's next Homeland Security pick had to be another despicable human being.

Markwayne Mullin’s nomination to lead the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) just barely advanced out of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee on Thursday. However, despite this win, it has come amidst an intense backlash, especially from Representative Nancy Mace.

Per The Hill, Mace took to X to make her feelings about the hearing crystal clear. She directly called out Mullin’s tension with Senator Rand Paul, which was on full display. “There’s a difference between right and wrong,” Mace wrote. “Every one knows this is wrong and few have spoken up.”

During his opening remarks, Paul confronted Mullin directly about some pretty shocking statements Mullin reportedly made to the media. “You told the media that I was a ‘freaking snake’ and that you completely understood why I had been assaulted,” Paul stated. He went on to express how “shocked” he was that Mullin would “justify and celebrate this violent assault that caused me so much pain and my family so much pain.”

Looks like Mullin has a lot of people to sweet talk

This isn’t just about some political squabble, either. Paul had to have part of his lung removed after he was assaulted. Mace found it “unreal” that someone who “advertises violence as the answer when they have a political disagreement” would even be considered for such a high-profile role.

Paul himself questioned Mullin’s suitability for the job. “I just wonder if someone who applauds violence against their political opponents is the right person to lead an agency that has struggled to accept limits to the proper use of force,” Paul said.

He even challenged Mullin to a face-to-face confrontation during the hearing. “You have never had the courage to look me in the eye and tell me that the assault was justified, so today you’ll have your chance,” Paul declared.

DHS itself has been going through a rough patch lately. The previous secretary, Kristi Noem, who was already considered unqualified for the role, was fired just a few weeks ago. She was then replaced by Mullin, whose qualifications are also being disputed

Plus, there’s been a ton of controversy, like the fatal shootings of Alex Pretti and Renee Good in Minneapolis back in January. Democrats have been pushing hard for changes to immigration enforcement, even keeping DHS shut down for over a month because they can’t agree on legislation without those reforms.

So, Mullin stepping into this role is already under a microscope, but these comments about Paul’s assault just add another layer of complexity. It’s a tough spot for anyone to be in, and having this kind of baggage right out of the gate is certainly not ideal for leading an agency that deals so directly with public safety and the appropriate use of force.

Mace’s strong words really underscore the gravity of the situation, showing that this isn’t just a quiet committee vote.
