‘Trump is defeated’: TACO Trump backs down in Iran, retreats on bombing threats, forced to negotiate

Utter humiliation on the international stage.

You can’t rely on much in this crazy, mixed-up world. But there’s one rule that always holds fast: Trump Always Chickens Out. Now this has once again come to pass, with Donald “TACO” Trump forced into a humiliating climbdown in his stand-off with Iran over the Strait of Hormuz.

Iran currently has the world economy in a headlock over the critical shipping route, with Trump angrily saying they had a 48-hour deadline in which to open it or begin airstrikes against Iranian power plants and energy infrastructure.

Iran countered, saying if Trump did that, they’d “irreversibly destroy” critical facilities across the Middle East, including desalination plants that provide drinking water and allow key industries to function. Iran doesn’t have many cards to play, but they’re playing what’s in their hand to devastating effect.

They called his bluff!

And so, Trump has been forced to scurry away with his tail between his legs. Taking to Truth Social, he tried to put a positive spin on this:

“BASED ON THE TENOR AND TONE OF THESE IN DEPTH, DETAILED, AND CONSTRUCTIVE CONVERSATIONS, WHICH WILL CONTINUE THROUGHOUT THE WEEK, I HAVE INSTRUCTED THE DEPARTMENT OF WAR TO POSTPONE ANY AND ALL MILITARY STRIKES AGAINST IRANIAN POWER PLANTS AND ENERGY INFRASTRUCTURE FOR A FIVE DAY PERIOD, SUBJECT TO THE SUCCESS OF THE ONGOING MEETINGS AND DISCUSSIONS.”

It’s quite something that Iran has managed to successfully parry the overwhelming military might of the United States and Israel. Trump may try to paint this as a victory, but don’t be fooled he’s been dragged kicking and screaming to the negotiating table and forced to make this compromise.

For example, there’s absolutely no sign that Iran has made any concessions on reopening the Strait of Hormuz. If they had, you can bet that Trump would be shouting that achievement as loudly as he could.

What seems to have happened is that Iran offered Trump a desperately needed off-ramp to his war, giving him an avenue to save face while beating a rapid retreat. For example, it was only hours ago that war-crazed Republicans were threatening an Iwo Jima-style aquatic assault on Kharg Island, which would have been a meat-grinder chewing through US troops.

Expect Trump and MAGA to try to spin this as a resounding victory. But, in reality, the Islamic regime remains in power, they clearly still have the capacity to project power against their neighbors, and their burning hatred for the United States and Israel has just been baked in for another generation.
