By now we’re pretty much used to seeing conservatives and MAGA fanatics sharing their bad takes on Fox News, in fact, most people are so used to it they just tune it out. However, a recent exchange has been deemed far too creepy to ignore as medical analyst Marc Siegel labeled a drop in teen births between the ages of 15 to 19 a “problem.”
The statistics are part of a wider drop in birth rates across the U.S. which isn’t exactly a surprise considering Trump has wrecked the economy so badly most people can’t even look after themselves, let alone a child. However, many have taken issue with Siegel’s focus on such a young age range, especially considering the younger end of that 15 top 19 scale can not even legally consent.
It’s bizarre and frankly quite disturbing that this is being presented as a problem, especially when Siegel seems to be suggesting that parents should have children even when they may not be financially prepared or of age.
The statistics indicate that people are being more responsible in not having children until they are ready or at least a little older, how this can be seen as anything but a good thing is baffling. It seems people (particularly women) of child-bearing age can’t win either way, how many times have we seen conservatives blame parents who are struggling for choosing to have children. Let’s not forget that Trump has cut funds for childcare.
But now we have people like Dr Siegel complaining that people aren’t giving birth enough as well. So what do these people want? They want young and financially unstable people to have children but they don’t want the government to pay for childcare? That’s a recipe for disaster.
Marc Siegel is mostly concerned about young adults
Speaking on Fox News Siegel chose to focus on the statistics relating to younger adults. According to him , the fertility rate for 15 to 19-year-olds is down 7%. Now, correct me if I’m wrong but surely less 15-year-olds getting pregnant isn’t a problem, that’s progress. Should we not be celebrating this and working towards no pregnancies at such a young age?
On X plenty of people expressed their disgust at the doctor’s comments. “Why do creepy white men want to have teenagers get pregnant[?]” asked one person. Another added, “Ages 15–19 should be about school, dreams, and growing up not adults normalizing teen pregnancy on national TV.”
The segment has rightly been met with disgust by many. Maybe this shouldn’t be a surprise coming from a network so eager to defend someone like Donald Trump, a known associate of Jeffrey Epstein and the main reason the files on the notorious sex trafficker have been redacted and buried.
