Man left confounded after Uber driver goes AWOL, the worst part is they still wanted to charge him a cancellation fee

The Uber driver just vanished into thin air.

A man on TikTok has shared his rather irritating predicament after his Uber driver disappeared on him, leaving him stranded in the cold. Despite the empty car being parked on the sidewalk with no driver around, the company still wanted to charge him $6 as a cancellation fee.

When Uber was first introduced it was supposed to be a convenient alternative to booking a taxi, simply pay and book from an app on your phone, simple right? But as the years have gone by and Uber has become one of the dominant modes of transportation customer satisfaction seems to have gone down.

TikToker Stefan was certainly one of those unhappy customers as he took to TikTok to share the predicament he had been left in after his Uber driver went AWOL on him. In the viral clip Stefan speaks to the camera stating, “that’s our Uber,” pointing to a parked car with the hazards flashing. He continues, “Uber wants to charge me a $6 cancellation fee and our driver’s not even in the car.”

It’s unclear where the driver has gone or if he’ll be back as Stefan admits, “I don’t know where he could be.” So it seems Stefan might be stuck there as he can’t cancel the Uber without incurring a fee. That means he has no choice but to wait until his Uber driver returns, however long that will be.

Uber service not up to scratch

Stefan is just one of many dissatisfied customers who have had to deal with incompetence from the ridesharing company. In the comments under his video others on TikTok shared their frustrating experiences with Uber. “[M]y uber got pulled over for speeding, cop said his license expired THREE YEARS AGO” wrote one person, adding that they were still charged $16 for taking half the ride.

Another person claimed that they were charged $48 for what should have been a $26 ride due to their driver getting lost and taking multiple wrong turns.

Much of the frustration also comes from customers not having access to a support line where they can explain their issues. Much of Uber’s customer support is automated nowadays with chatbots that simply cannot help in situations like Stefan’s or the ones shared by other angry customers in the comments.

As a result of bad experiences such as this, (or even worse) many have sworn off ever using Uber again, one person even asked “What did people do before Uber and Lyft[?] suggesting we go back to that instead. The very thing Uber was designed to replace is now seen as the superior alternative thanks to increasingly poor customer experiences.
