Man helplessly watches stranger walk into his home and start teaching him manners. Then she allegedly calls the police, accuses him of assault

A man said a stranger walked straight into his apartment while he was closing the door behind him, mistaking his home for the apartment of a beautician who lived one floor above him. According to a post shared on Reddit’s r/IDontWorkHereLady by user @everyonegay, the incident allegedly took place three years before the post was written, while the poster’s family was out shopping.

The poster said the woman, whom he described as around 35 years old, was talking loudly on her phone as she walked up the stairs and continued into his living room without acknowledging him. He said he tried to get her attention multiple times, but she reportedly ignored him and kept talking on her call.

When he tried a fourth time, the woman allegedly paused her call and turned to him. The poster quoted her as saying, “Can’t you f–king see I’m on the phone? Where are your f–king manners? If I’m f–king talking you f–king wait until I’m done with the f–king call.”

The poster said he responded by telling her the beautician was upstairs, to which she allegedly replied, “Then she better f–king come down already cause I’m here now.” He said he interpreted this as the woman still believing she was in the correct apartment, only now assuming the beautician was simply away.

Rather than clarify the situation further, the poster said he physically escorted the woman out. He wrote that he grabbed her arm with one hand and the back of her neck with the other, then walked her to the stairs while she reportedly shouted at him to stop touching her and let her go. He said he shut the door after pointing her toward the correct floor.

About ten minutes later, the poster said two police officers arrived at his door. He said the officers told him the woman had accused him of assault. Accusations like this are not unheard of, as seen where a woman shoved a man and then accused him of assault.

The poster said he explained his side of the events, stating that the woman had entered his apartment without permission and that he had removed her from his own property. He said that after officers checked the woman and did not find a bruise, they appeared to believe his account of the incident.

According to the poster, the officers then asked if he wanted to press charges, but he declined because doing so would have required him to go to the police station. The poster said he has seen the woman around the building a few times since the incident, and that the two have exchanged looks but nothing further has happened between them. Confrontations sparked by misunderstandings have shown up elsewhere as well, as seen where a comedian had police called on him after trying to help a stranger.

The Reddit post drew a large number of reactions in the comments section, with many users sharing their own opinions on how the situation was handled. One commenter wrote, “Home invaders aren’t entitled to politeness.”

Another commenter suggested a different approach, writing, “Instead of directly throwing her out, I would have stood in front of while I dialed 911 and loudly reported an intruder in my home. But then, I’m a small older woman, and bodily hustling someone out of my home isn’t happening.”
