A realtor recently walked into an occupied apartment, seemingly without prior warning. She caught the tenant undressed and sparked a massive debate online. The incident, which was captured on video and shared to X by user SonnyBoy, shows a red-haired realtor simply walking into the unit and gesturing for a potential buyer to follow her inside.
The video starts with the realtor already inside the doorway, and the tenant can be heard saying, “So, I, I don’t really want people in here when I am not dressed.” Even after this very clear boundary is set, the realtor doesn’t immediately leave. Instead, a man who was with the realtor begins to step inside, and you can hear him say, “I just need five minutes.” The realtor then doubles down, telling the tenant, “yes, not even five minutes.”
The tenant, understandably frustrated, repeats, ‘but I’m still in here, not dressed, like I, I’m in my house.’ It’s only after the tenant reiterates that she had only agreed to an hour and a half window, rather than the four hours the realtor claimed, that the realtor finally backs out and shuts the door.
It’s crazy that they don’t leave, even when they are called out
The post has already racked up 4.3 million views, and the comments section is absolutely wild. Some people are siding with the realtor, with one user named marchesssik arguing that the tenant was being lazy and that the realtor was just doing her job. However, most people are pointing out that the realtor’s behavior was completely unacceptable.
One user, Rick D, stated, “Absolfcknlutely report her. She made no effort to give warning to the current tenant that there would be a showing and they def shouldn’t be just entering someones place without permission or unless emergency.”
Another user, Jale, summed up the frustration by saying, “”Currently occupied” means KNOCK FIRST 💀 She walked in like she already owned the place when someone is literally LIVING there 😤 The audacity of entering without knocking, ignoring “I’m not dressed” AND still pushing to see the apartment? That’s not a realtor, that’s a trespasser with a keychain 🔑❌”
This situation brings up a huge issue regarding renter rights. According to Rentec Direct, it is absolutely not acceptable for a real estate agent to just show up and enter a property unannounced. They are legally required to provide advanced notice according to state laws before entering a unit.
If this keeps happening to a tenant, the best course of action is to speak directly to the landlord so they can relay the specific laws to the agent, who might be unaware of their obligations. While dealing with showings and inspections can be a major disruption, landlords are typically required to give 24 hours of notice, or whatever the specific requirement is for that state, before anyone enters your home. Of course, landlords have broken this rule too.
Seeing this video makes it clear that while selling a property is a part of the real estate business, there is a fundamental expectation of privacy that needs to be respected. Regardless of what is in a contract, just walking into someone’s home while they are undressed is a massive breach of boundaries.
As X user, Moustache, wisely put it, “A landlord does not own your privacy just because they own the bricks. If they want to show the house, they must follow the 24-hour rule. Anything else is an ambush. Lock your deadbolts and stand your ground.” It is a good reminder for all of us to stay informed about our local tenant laws so we can protect our space when things like this happen.
