Florida woman allegedly kills two ex-husbands on the same day, leaves police horrified with a careless two-word question

No one knows why she chose violence that day.

The Hillsborough County State Attorney’s Office has officially announced its intention to pursue the death penalty against Susan Avalon, a Florida woman accused of killing two of her ex-husbands on the same day last December. Avalon currently faces charges of first-degree premeditated murder for the death of Timothy Fletcher and two counts of second-degree murder regarding the death of David Scott.

The timeline established by law enforcement suggests a calculated series of events that spanned across multiple counties. Investigators allege that Avalon first traveled to Tampa, where she killed Fletcher inside his residence. Following that incident, authorities believe she traveled to Bradenton to confront Scott at his home.

Per People Magazine, the encounter at the Bradenton residence turned violent when Scott was shot on his own doorstep. Despite his injuries, Scott managed to communicate with responding police officers, suggesting that his ex-wife may have been responsible for the shooting.

This is where we start our trip into crazy town

According to the information provided by the sheriff’s office, Scott’s daughter, whom he shared with Avalon, provided critical testimony to the police. She reported hearing three gunshots and subsequently observed a vehicle fleeing the area. Using the description of the vehicle and additional evidence recovered at the scene, law enforcement successfully tracked Avalon to Citrus County.

One of the most jarring details to emerge from the investigation involves the moment police first made contact with Avalon. When officers approached her and questioned her about the status of her ex-husband, she allegedly replied, “Which one?” This response, delivered while she was located approximately 125 miles away from the initial crime scene in Manatee County, proved to be a pivotal moment for investigators.

It immediately prompted the Manatee County officials to contact the Tampa police department to request a welfare check on Fletcher. It was during this check that authorities discovered Fletcher deceased in his home.

Further details regarding the suspect’s behavior have added layers of complexity to the case. Manatee County Sheriff noted that investigators observed Avalon cleaning her vehicle with bleach at her residence in Citrus County. Additionally, authorities alleged that earlier in the day, she had visited a nearby store and taken a Panera soup without paying for it before proceeding to the victim’s home. She then used the Panera to approach her ex.

Avalon, who is 51 years old, has entered a plea of not guilty to all charges brought against her. Per People Magazine, the legal proceedings are expected to be lengthy as the Hillsborough County State Attorney’s Office works to build its case for the death penalty.

The victims, David Scott and Timothy Fletcher, have become the focus of a massive multi-agency investigation. While the legal process is still in its early stages, the evidence collected by both the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office and the Tampa police has been described by officials as credible. The coordination between these two jurisdictions was essential in linking the two homicides.

As the situation continues to develop, the focus remains on the upcoming trial and the evidence that will be presented in court. The sheer proximity of the two deaths, coupled with the specific comments attributed to the suspect, has made this one of the most closely watched criminal cases in the region. For now, Avalon remains in custody as she awaits the next steps in a legal battle that carries the highest possible stakes.

Investigators are prepared to push forward with their pursuit of capital punishment, citing the premeditated nature of the crimes as a driving factor in their decision. This is an extreme case of domestic violence that, unfortunately, was echoed in Illinois recently. The community is left waiting for further updates as the court process unfolds, marking a somber end to a case that began with a series of frantic calls and a chilling response from the suspect.
