A boy in Gaza is comforting his little brother after their mother was killed. And Marjorie Taylor Greene speaks up: ‘How can we fund this?’

More and more Americans feel the same way.

A video has been going around on social media showing a young boy in Gaza trying to comfort his little brother. The two children had just lost their mother. The clip, which has moved millions of people around the world, became one of the most shared moments to come out of the ongoing war in Gaza. It has also sparked a rare and unexpected response from one of America’s most well-known right-wing politicians.

The war in Gaza has now killed more than 75,000 people, according to Al Jazeera. Independent researchers believe the real number could be between 100,000 and 126,000. Around 83 percent of those killed were civilians, based on Israel’s own military intelligence data. Children have made up a large share of the dead. Gaza now has the most child amputees per capita in the world.

When Republican Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene saw the video of the two boys, she wrote on X: “This video grieves my soul. America, how can we stay silent? How can we fund this? Even more so, American Christians how can you turn your head and not care? These are God’s children too.”

Greene is not alone, and the cracks are showing in Israel’s popularity in America

The post was striking because Greene has long been one of the strongest supporters of Donald Trump and, for much of the war, had backed Israel. In July 2025, she became the first Republican in Congress to call the situation in Gaza a “genocide.” She also asked: “Are innocent Israeli lives more valuable than innocent Palestinian and Christian lives?”

Greene’s shift reflects something bigger happening in American politics. Public opinion in the United States has changed sharply. A Pew Research Center survey found that 60 percent of all American adults now have unfavorable views of Israel.

Among Democrats, that number is 80 percent. Even among Republicans under 50, a majority expressed negative views. In the Senate, 40 out of 47 Democrats voted to block a military sale of bulldozers to Israel. The vote failed, but advocates called it a historic moment. Greene herself has not been shy about breaking with her own party on other issues, either, such as when she publicly called out Trump over his UFO announcements.

The United States has provided at least $21.7 billion in military aid to Israel since the war began in October 2023. The Israeli Defense Ministry confirmed that the US delivered 90,000 tons of weapons and equipment on 800 transport planes and 140 ships. Israel’s air force runs entirely on American-made aircraft, including F-15s, F-16s, and F-35s. Critics argue this makes the US directly responsible for what is happening in Gaza.

On the international stage, the pressure on Israel has grown significantly. A United Nations inquiry concluded in September 2025 that Israel had committed genocide against Palestinians. The International Criminal Court had already issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former defense minister for war crimes and crimes against humanity.

More than 20 countries, including Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and the UAE, called Israel’s military actions a “dangerous and unacceptable escalation.” Germany announced it would stop sending weapons that could be used in Gaza. Massive protests took place across Europe, with around 250,000 people marching in Amsterdam alone. The war has also taken a devastating toll on journalists covering it, including an Al Jazeera correspondent killed after posting a final message about those who stayed silent.

A ceasefire was reached in October 2025, but it has barely held. Israel has been recorded violating it more than 2,400 times since it took effect, including air strikes, shootings at civilians, and the demolition of homes. Aid into Gaza has remained far below what is needed. Despite all of this, the weapons keep coming, and the children keep paying the price.
