Dating someone new often comes with a long list of small anxieties. Meeting friends, figuring out texting habits, and navigating awkward first impressions can all feel stressful. For many people, another surprisingly common concern early in a relationship is using the bathroom at a partner’s house.
That relatable fear became the focus of a viral TikTok from creator Undercoverolivia (@undercoveroliviaa) after she shared an uncomfortable bathroom exchange with a man she had been dating.
“And ultimately, if I’m dating you, I will poop in your home. Okay?” she said at the start of the video, viewed about 260k times. “I was dating this guy. He comes into the room, and he says, there’s a skid mark on my toilet,” she recalled. She admitted she had used the bathroom and responded casually. “And I said, yeah, I had to s—t, like, okay.”
But the disagreement escalated when the man questioned why she had not cleaned the toilet afterward. “And he was like, you didn’t clean it off. And I was like, there’s no toilet brush.” According to the TikToker, the man then revealed his own cleaning method.
He uses WHAT to clean his toilet?!
“And he goes, I clean my toilet with my hand,” Undercoverolivia recalled in the post. The statement stunned her. “You expect me to put my hands in your toilet, b—h? No, in your toilet water. Get a toilet brush, or I’m leaving a skid mark.” She added that toilet brushes are inexpensive and easy to buy. “They’re like a dollar. They’re a dollar at the Dollar General, babe, okay? And I’m not doing this.”
The story resonated with commenters who relayed their own strategies for avoiding embarrassing bathroom moments while dating. One commenter said they always place toilet paper in the bowl before using the bathroom so waste lands on the paper. The person added that the trick also helps avoid loud splashing, and they do it everywhere they go.
Another viewer admitted they would not use a toilet brush in a new relationship either. Instead, they said they would flush again later and hope the evidence disappeared on its own.
Toilet cleaning: Not for hands
While the TikTok focused largely on humor, the conversation also raised questions about proper toilet cleaning habits. Cleaning experts and public health guidance generally recommend using dedicated tools such as toilet brushes, disinfectants, and disposable gloves when cleaning toilets. Direct contact with toilet water is generally discouraged because toilet bowls can harbor bacteria and other germs, even when they appear clean.
Toilet brushes remain the standard cleaning tool in most households, and many cleaning guides suggest regularly disinfecting or replacing brushes to prevent bacterial buildup. Still, the viral response to Undercoverolivia’s video showed that for many people, the bigger issue was not the cleaning technique: It was the universal awkwardness of trying to seem composed while navigating one of the most normal human processes in a brand-new relationship.
