Marjorie Taylor Greene appeared on The Alex Jones Show and shared her serious concerns about Donald Trump‘s comments regarding the 2028 presidential election. The former congresswoman, who has been closely tied to the MAGA movement, said she is worried that Trump might use the ongoing conflict with Iran as a reason to cancel the election.
According to Mediaite, Greene’s concerns go back to a meeting Trump had with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. During that meeting, Trump reportedly made a casual comment suggesting that wars can lead to election cancellations. Greene said the comment was made in a joking tone, but she believes it may be a deliberate attempt to plant an idea in people’s minds rather than just an offhand remark.
“So, that type of behavior is someone planting an idea over and over,” Greene told Jones. “And again, he constantly says it so that he can normalize the idea and test the support and test people’s reactions.” She warned that repeating such ideas can make them seem normal over time, which she sees as a serious threat to democracy and the rights of American voters.
Trump’s repeated comments about canceling elections point to a troubling pattern
Greene’s concerns come as she has already been at odds with Trump over the war in Iran, which he launched in February, and several other issues. Her public break with Trump has been a notable shift, as she was once one of his closest allies in Congress. Even some of his former allies who are now criticizing his leadership have started to speak out in ways that would have been hard to imagine just a year ago.
According to reporting from WIRED‘s Inner Loop, the White House is already preparing for the 2028 election, with administration officials evaluating potential Republican candidates for the ticket. But Greene’s comments suggest she believes Trump’s intentions may go beyond simply backing a successor candidate, and that his repeated jokes about canceling elections deserve to be taken seriously.
During the meeting with Zelensky, Trump said, “So, let me just see, if we happen to be in a war with somebody, no more elections? Oh, that’s good.” When Jones heard this, he responded by saying, “That’s what psychos do.” The exchange has raised eyebrows among those who feel that Trump’s casual attitude toward such a serious subject is itself a warning sign.
Greene was firm in her position that a third term for Trump is simply not possible under current law. “There cannot be a third term,” she said. “That’s against our laws, that’s against the Constitution. There is no third term.” She has been consistent in this message, making it clear that she will not support any effort to extend Trump’s time in office beyond what the Constitution allows.
She also made clear that a war should never be used as a justification for canceling an election, saying, “If this country is at war, no, our election should not be canceled, absolutely not.” Greene stressed that elections are a fundamental part of what makes the United States a democracy, and that no sitting president should be allowed to use a military conflict as an excuse to hold onto power.
She also pushed back on the idea, adding, “We cannot accept this. Absolutely, absolutely not.” Greene’s comments reflect a broader concern that Trump’s repeated statements on the subject are not just jokes but a calculated way of testing public reaction to an idea that would be unconstitutional. This comes amid separate scrutiny over how taxpayer money was allegedly misused to benefit Trump’s own allies.
