‘Social media comedian’ arrested after alleged safe burglary, identified because of ‘distinctive walk’

Just $200 was taken, but Dejontay Wings could be facing years behind bars.

Instagram comedian Dejontay Wings, 27, has been arrested after allegedly breaking into his former workplace, Take 5 Oil Change in Baton Rouge, and stealing $200 from the safe.

A Baton Rouge police warrant via WBRZ details how Wings (described by them as a ‘social media comedian’) reportedly broke a garage window at the business, searched the office for the safe, and retrieved cash from it at around 10:50 pm on Dec. 2, 2025. Cops claim a security camera was present, but the burglar’s face was not visible on the footage.

However, the auto shop’s manager is said to have noticed that the man in the video had a “distinctive walk” and identified him as Wings, who had been fired from the repair shop two weeks before the break-in. On Saturday, Wings was arrested and charged with simple burglary and criminal damage to property.

His comedy career

You may recognize Wings if you’re into niche internet comedy. Wings was known online as “WingsTooFunny” and has 296,000 followers on Instagram, beginning his career as a member of Baton Rouge comedian Funny Mike’s crew.

Compilations on Wings’ YouTube channel show a series of low-budget Jackass-style public pranks and comedy skits, many of which became viral hits on short-form video platform Vine in the mid-2010s.

If convicted, Wings could be facing serious consequences. “Simple burglary” is a felony in Louisiana, punished with a fine of up to $2,000 and/or imprisonment for up to 12 years. Burglary of a commercial building, as Wings is alleged to have done, means this sentence may apply.

The punishment for simple criminal damage is based on the dollar amount of damage. In this case, the damage is a smashed window, and the theft was only $200, indicating it may fall at the lowest tier of punishment.

Factors like any previous criminal record and Wings’ character would be taken into account but, as this information isn’t publicly available, I can only roughly estimate based on the Louisiana statutes and the details provided in the police warrant.

A video posted to Wings’ YouTube channel by colleague “spudwavy” claims to have the “truth” about these charges: “Yes, Wings is currently locked up. Is it true that he broke into a place for $200? No.”

He goes on to detail that if Wings needed this money, he would have just asked him or Funny Mike, and they would have given it to him. spudwavy also claims that Wings doesn’t have a “distinctive walk” and questions how the manager could have positively identified him based on that.

The case continues.
