Almost every adult entrusted with the responsibility of being a child’s primary caregiver knows the struggle of asking a kid to smile for the camera. It could be the dreaded school picture day, a trip to the local photo studio, or, in the case of James and Hannah Hidalgo, their wedding day in Louisiana. One thing tends to remain constant in all these situations — a child will smile only if they actually want to.
The Hidalgos got married in Louisiana on Nov. 7, 2025. And as is usually the case with wedding photography, it took some time before they finally received their pictures. The couple later told People that their daughter Josie looked so visibly “annoyed” in the photos that they felt they simply had to share them online. So Hannah posted them on TikTok. What neither of them expected, however, was more than 4 million views and over 700,000 likes.

She was having a rough week
During what was supposed to be one of the happiest moments of their lives, Josie was apparently having a rough week. Hannah explained that their daughter had been feeling sick and, frankly, the wedding had stretched well past her bedtime. Hannah added, “She’s not one to hide how she’s feeling, and you’ll always know how she feels by her facial expressions.”
When the pictures finally arrived, one image in particular stood out. It captured the Hidalgos sharing their first kiss as a married couple — a dramatic dip kiss while everyone around them looked emotional and celebratory. But Josie, standing nearby, wore what could only be described as an intense mean-mug expression. Apparently, the couple even had to retake the photo, which probably did not improve the mood of the young flower girl.
Hannah explained, “The main reason was she was not happy that her dad kissed HER mom while everyone cheered. After the kiss she said, ‘Why did they do that?!’” Still, now that over 4 million strangers online had become invested in Josie’s reaction, the couple wanted people to know that their daughter actually had a great time at the wedding overall.
Judging from the comments section, most people found Josie’s expression hilarious. One user joked, “You made her plan the whole wedding, didn’t you?” Another wrote, “Y’all taking too damn long. She’s trying to get to the reception for apple juice at the bar!” One commenter even shared a similar family story, writing, “My niece did the same thing because she couldn’t stand next to my friend Greta for the picture.”
In the end, the reaction became part of the fun. Whenever parents share moments involving their children online, things do not always unfold the way they expect. Sometimes people interpret the humor differently, and sometimes parents end up having to provide extra context. In fact, many people in the comments were asking Hannah to post a follow-up storytime explaining more about the moment.
Ultimately, though, it was simply another reminder that children are often incapable of hiding exactly how they feel in the moment. And perhaps that honesty made the wedding photos even more memorable.
