Colorado man confronted, accused of waiting by sign and then following woman. When questioned, he allegedly called her his wife: ‘Creepy meter was maxed out’

Commenters applauded the witness's decision to intervene.

A Colorado bystander’s decision to confront a man he believed was following a woman has gone viral after the suspect allegedly claimed the woman was his wife. The incident, which was shared by Reddit user SEG314 in the r/publicfreakout community, has attracted thousands of comments and views.

According to SEG314, the encounter began after he noticed a man sitting near a sign outside his apartment building. Nothing initially seemed unusual. That changed when a woman walked past. The Reddit user said the man waited several seconds before getting up and following her down the street. Concerned by what he was seeing, SEG314 decided to intervene.

“I said ‘Excuse me sir! How’s your night? I just wanted to see if you were having a good night, seems like you might’ve been following that woman,'” the poster wrote. The man allegedly responded, “That’s my WIFE!”

Allegedly, the woman kept walking, blocks ahead

Casting doubt on that claim, SEG314 said the woman was already blocks ahead and appeared completely unaware of the man’s presence. “That’s weird she doesn’t seem too concerned with leaving you behind,” he replied, according to the post.

At that point, the Reddit user said alarm bells were ringing. “At this point my creepy meter was maxed out because he admitted he WAS following her and so I started filming which is what you see.”

The video shows the bystander questioning the man while recording the interaction. The woman is not visible during most of the exchange, leaving viewers unable to independently determine whether the man’s claim was true. The poster later said the woman appeared to reach her destination safely.

The situation reportedly became more unsettling when the man put his hands, holding a phone, inside the vehicle. “Literally I’m like you idiot I’m just distracting you right now, but then he got in my car and I was like ‘naw I’m out.'” the Reddit user wrote.

Many commenters praised the bystander’s willingness to intervene. One response read, “He didn’t even have to hide behind a sign and stalk a lady to give off those vibes. Good job. We need more people willing to step in when their creep detector goes off.”

Others argued the incident should be reported to authorities. One commenter wrote, “Not a bad idea to report this to police. If he’s stalking women, that tends to be an escalating behavior.”

Without police records or independent confirmation, it remains unclear who the man was, whether he knew the woman, or what his intentions may have been. The claims have not been independently verified, and as of June 22, no police reports, arrests, or local news reports tied to the incident could be independently located.
