The team at CFS Tattoo Company in San Antonio is working to get back on their feet after a destructive break-in left their studio in shambles. The incident, which caused an estimated 70,000 dollars in damages, has been a major point of discussion online after one of the shop’s artists, Morgainne Campos, shared the details across TikTok and Instagram. The initial video gained massive attention, reaching 4.4 million views as people reacted to the state of the Texan shop.
According to KSAT and KENS5, surveillance video captured a woman kicking through the front door. The footage shows her turning on the lights, wreaking havoc for two hours, then turning them back off before leaving the scene. The damage was extensive. Tattoo artist Alyssa Logsdon noted, “Pretty much every single station in here was destroyed,” adding, “Except for the stuff that she couldn’t reach towards the top of the ceiling.”
In her TikTok post, Campos hinted that they knew the alleged perpetrator. She noted, “We got broken into today. CFS Tattoo Company was targeted by an individual who used to work at the shop and was let go because she was just not a good person to her clients or the shop people.”
The vandalism was an escalation of a problematic behavior
Campos told her TikTok audience that the alleged perpetrator “has always been targeting individuals at the shop with threats, and a few days ago just showed up back at the tattoo shop harassing us during our workplace. We called the police several times, and last night she took the opportunity to destroy the whole place, which included a few very irreplaceable paintings. ripped a few of them, destroyed a lot of valuable things like books and other paintings.”
Campos noted to KENS5 that the footage of the vandalism was awful. The damage to the art also brought an emotional toll. She pointed out that ink was splattered across the walls and floors, while picture frames were smashed. One painting was even stabbed with the leg of an overturned table, and a large piano was found flipped over. The individual also smeared pizza across the walls and left messages, including an “X,” a crooked smiley face, and the word “purge.”
Logsdon detailed the damages to KSAT. “Machines, personal belongings, books, I mean, an autoclave, stencils, stencil printers, regular printers. It was probably over $70,000 worth of damage, if I had to guess.”
On TikTok, Campos noted that the shop was doing well because of the community. “Regardless of all of that, we had a very beautiful and good community come together help clean up the shop today.” She added, “We really appreciate the support and concern from everyone. Luckily, we’ll be back in business tomorrow doing our thing, doing what we love, tattooing.”
TikTok was baffled by the scale of the destruction, with one user asking, “How in the hell did she manage to do ALL THAT.” Another echoed their thought, writing, “One person did all of that?!” Another user was already looking ahead and commented, “I hope you guys have evidence so you can sue her.” Meanwhile, a user pointed to the history between the parties, noting, “Wow she already showed you…that you were right about her.”
CFS artists like Isaac Davis felt the impact firsthand, as the closure forced them to reschedule appointments. “Today I had to reschedule my appointment. I had an all-day appointment,” Davis said. “It hurts to not make money today and instead I’m cleaning up somebody else’s mess.”
Despite the setback, the shop is pushing forward. By 8 a.m. on the day after the break-in, the team was already clearing debris. Since the initial reports, Morgainne Campos has provided an update on TikTok, confirming that the suspect has been formally charged, naming and shaming her.
Earlier this year, there was a severe act of vandalism that shook a community when unknown vandals tore through a historic Black Cemetery in Florida. Not only did they graffiti tombs, but they also tore up headstones and damaged grave sites. Then again, the act of vandalism can sometimes be welcome, as demonstrated by a TikToker who took on the chaotic good mission to total cars that destroy snowmen.
