A video posted online shows a Fourth of July fireworks display in Alabama going wrong, as sparks flew toward a family’s home and people ran for cover, according to footage shared on Instagram.
No injuries were reported in the incident, based on the video and its caption. The clip was one of several fireworks-related incidents reported over the holiday weekend.
The video was posted by Instagram user @TatumAlyn on July 5. In the caption, she joked, “Is it even July 4th if my father doesn’t almost kill us all?”
Fireworks display in Alabama takes a chaotic turn on camera
According to the 46-second video, the woman’s father is seen lighting fireworks outside a home in Alabama. The first several fireworks went off without any issues. The force from the initial fireworks apparently caused the case holding the remaining fireworks to tip over. After that, the display became harder to control, based on what the footage shows.
Sparks were seen shooting toward nearby trees. The fireworks then appeared to aim toward the front porch, where the family had gathered to watch the show. People in the video were seen running toward the front door as the house was hit with what the footage describes as an unexpected light show. Based on the available video, there do not appear to have been any injuries.
Fireworks-related accidents are reportedly common around the July 4th holiday each year. A 2026 compilation video of similar incidents shows this is the only one. In another Fourth of July incident, a fireworks mortar struck a descending Delta jet near Chicago.
According to Brobible, some fireworks accidents are linked to alcohol use combined with fireworks, while others are reportedly caused by equipment malfunction or inadequate planning. A similar video showed a paraglider hit by a plane in mid-air, forcing a frantic parachute battle.
Reactions in the comments section of the video varied. One commenter wrote, “If you’ve never feared for your life during your dad’s fireworks display, you aren’t really living.” Another joked, “This will be last weekend for some folks to have eight fingers, two thumbs, and two eyes.”
Another viewer commented on the setting of the display, writing, “Before he even lit it and I saw all those surrounding low hanging trees I knew we were in for a treat. Literally almost took out the entire neighborhood.” A separate comment praised how the moment was captured, stating, “Cameraman gave us action, suspense and horror.”
Not all reactions were lighthearted. One commenter wrote, “Disagree with this horrible way to celebrate. Things of kittens, doggies birds all king of animals and kids with difficulties to face every day life and illness.”
Another questioned the tone of the reactions, asking, “How is this funny knowing fireworks can cause wildfires and kill creatures/destroy homes? This is irresponsible and potentially life threatening.”
