Swifties swoop on garbage collected near Taylor Swift wedding, buy discarded cigarette butts and ovulation tests to remember special day

Someone's trash is another person's treasure.

It’s been a mixed week for Swifties. On one hand, they’re delighted that Taylor Swift has apparently found her happily-ever-after with Travis Kelce. On the other hand, despite a thousand guests in attendance, what actually happened at the wedding remains a mystery, and we still don’t have a single image of Swift in her wedding dress.

As such, Swifties are reportedly shelling out for literal garbage loosely connected to the Madison Square Garden wedding. As reported by AFP, items ranging from cigarette butts, ovulation test kits, water bottle caps, half-eaten candy, and used straws are being purchased for $25 each to commemorate the occasion.

“A little time capsule”

It’s important to note that this isn’t trash collected from inside Madison Square Garden, or items that were used during the wedding itself by guests, it’s garbage collected from around barriers that prevented the public from getting close to the venue.

This project is the brainchild of Justin Gignac, who said:

There’s garbage on the floor after the party. Collected from the edge of a love story outside Madison Square Garden, as close to Taylor & Travis’ big day as you could’ve gotten without an invite. This is the debut of Pocket Garbage, so you can carry a piece of the greatest day of your… I mean, their lives, wherever you go.

As a nice bonus, whenever possible, the garbage has been tied in a knot to really bring home the wedding vibe.

Gignac told AFP, “It’s getting a lot of Swifties who just want a tangential piece of the wedding”. He bills each item as a “sculpture”, presenting it inside a small sealed plastic cube. He explained:

“I try to commemorate cultural moments in New York City, and this seemed to be a big one, so just capturing a little time capsule from that moment in time.”

As of writing, the shop indicates that Gignac has sold out of Taylor Swift-related garbage, but AFP says he’s considering putting more on the market. So, if you’re desperate for a tangible reminder of Swift’s wedding, then keep an eye on his store page!

This was the wedding of the year and as close as the United States is likely to get to a royal wedding. This naturally means it’s generated a colossal amount of gossip, including that some of Kelce’s friends were reportedly “flabbergasted” they weren’t invited, a debate over the couple’s prenuptial agreement, and much scrutiny being given to the guests’ political leanings.

Sooner or later, we’ll get the official wedding photos, so expect those to kick off yet another tidal wave of opinion pieces over what the intricate details of Swift’s wedding dress symbolize.
