Anne Hathaway admits something on Late Night that left her ‘so shocked.’ Then turns to Seth Meyers for advice

She called her third child a "buzzer beater".

Anne Hathaway, 43, is in the middle of a career renaissance. This week, beginning July 17, she returns to the biggest screens in the world as Penelope in the long-awaited The Odyssey. And in the middle of her press tour, Hathaway added another major life update by announcing that she is expecting her third child.

Hathaway shared the news on her official Instagram. Wearing a white two-piece ensemble, she walks into frame as Barbara Lewis’ Baby I’m Yours plays in the background. One of the top comments perfectly summed up the mood among fans: “This really is the perfect year to be an Anne Hathaway fan.” Another tied the announcement back to one of her most beloved roles, writing, “A proud citizen celebrates the Queen of Genovia expecting her child!!!!” The congratulatory messages just kept pouring in.

That sentiment seems to be widespread. Hathaway is also starring in The Devil Wears Prada 2, so even if Christopher Nolan’s latest film somehow fails to connect with audiences — which many would consider unlikely — 2026 is already shaping up to be one of the Oscar winner’s biggest years.

She suffered a miscarriage in the past

As Hathaway made the rounds on television, many fans hoped she would talk about what it’s like expecting her third child. During an appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers, the conversation finally turned to the pregnancy.

Hathaway has occasionally opened up about difficult moments in her private life. One of the most notable came during a 2024 Vanity Fair cover story, where she revealed that she had suffered a miscarriage a decade earlier.

Today, Hathaway and her husband, Adam Shulman, are parents to two sons. Speaking about the pregnancy, she admitted, “We knew what we were doing, but… we were so shocked it went this way.” She jokingly described the baby as the family’s “buzzer beater.”

She then turned the tables on Meyers, asking if he had any advice since he also has three children.

He replied, “Weirdly, it goes on, like, autopilot. Once there’s three, there’s not much you can do except watch.”

The audience erupted in laughter.

The conversation later shifted to Hathaway’s reunion with Christopher Nolan, marking their first collaboration since 2014. Meyers joked that she and Nolan had been “on a break.” Hathaway laughed that the joke was “triggering her hormones,” before adding that she simply believed Nolan’s recent films, such as Dunkirk, had been centered around male characters and didn’t have a role that suited her.

The response online has been overwhelmingly positive. Fans have been celebrating both the pregnancy announcement and what has become one of Hathaway’s busiest years in recent memory. And it doesn’t end with The Odyssey. After its theatrical run, she’ll reunite with Dakota Johnson in a horror film later this fall.

Her fans are loving every minute

Things weren’t always this bright for Hathaway. Over the past decade, she’s experienced box-office disappointments, personal struggles, and periods when public opinion seemed to turn against her. But she stayed the course.

No wonder her fans are enjoying this moment almost as much as she is.
