Bride-to-be paid thousands for a custom dress only for the designer to deliver a ‘Shein-looking dress,’ and allegedly refuse a refund

The dressmaker allegedly refused to refund despite the bride claiming the dress looked cheap and nowhere near what she had asked for.

Everybody wants their wedding day to be perfect. To ensure that everything goes off without a hitch, every little detail is meticulously planned, and the wedding dress is arguably the most important detail of all. For one woman on TikTok, the search for the perfect wedding dress quickly became a nightmare scenario as she claimed the dressmaker she had chosen was not capable of delivering on her vision.

The bride, Alexander, posted a lengthy video earlier this month in which she detailed all the ways she claims her dressmaker ruined her expensive wedding dress.

She chose a designer and claims to have clearly communicated her wants for the dress from the start, specifying that she wanted a drop-waist dress in particular. In fact, the drop-waist aspect was arguably the most important part of the dress. When she went to her first fitting, the dress wasn’t quite what she was expecting. It lacked the drop-waist, but Alex admitted that everything else appeared to be on track, and she only requested a few alterations.

But according to Alex, the next two fitting sessions only went downhill. The second fitting saw practically none of the bride’s requests seen to, and to make things worse, there were now new problems with the dress, including the fact that “It’s asymmetrical, one of the boobs is higher than the other.”

The third fitting is even worse, and by this point Alex is two months away from her wedding, and she has paid three-quarters of the fee for this dress. This left her to make a tough call regarding her dream dress or risk having no dress to wear on the day.

No refunds

Ultimately, the bride chose to order another dress before her final fitting. While she claims she tried to sever ties with the dressmaker and ask for a partial refund, they allegedly refused to give it and even insisted Alex come in for the final fitting, where the dress, once again, lacked much of what Alex had asked for.

Alex claimed to have spent a lot of money on what she called a “Shein-looking dress,” and stated she expected more from the dressmaker who apparently has quite the positive reputation (although she never named the business in her video). While Alex went to one more fitting in June (her wedding is in August), the dress still had numerous issues which she pointed out.

The designer responds

Although Alex didn’t name the designer, they outed themselves by making a response video to Alex’s TikTok. The dressmaker, “Undone by Kate,” took to the platform to defend herself and claimed that she had issued a full refund. Kate stated that a dress goes through multiple stages before reaching its final form but claimed that Alex had rescheduled her final fitting and backed out before the product was completed.

While the designer claims she did everything she could, people on TikTok weren’t convinced, stating that the dresses Alex showed still looked bad; “She had receipts. The dress was a different color and fabric each time. It was horrendous.” One commenter responded to Kate’s video.
