Woman shocked after United Flight had ‘too much weight’. She reveals they removed everyone’s checked bags from the plane: ‘how is this going to work?’

The modern travel experience is slowly evolving. Not necessarily for better or worse — just differently. Not too long ago, when a flight was fully booked, passengers understood the social contract they had signed: shoulder-to-shoulder, preferably silent, patient travel toward a shared destination. However, TikTok influencer Reneé Noe (@renee.noe) documented a mini-chaotic experience when she recently boarded a flight that a lot of people probably never expected to encounter in the age of air travel.

Noe boarded a packed United flight from Richmond, Virginia, to New York City. And there, that long-held social contract was shattered. She was traveling with her husband and infant son when the crew told them that their flight had “too much weight” just before takeoff. In her video, Noe said the commotion it caused was “crazy.”

At first, the crew asked some passengers if they would volunteer to get off the plane and take a later flight. But nobody budged. So the crew came up with a new solution: Everyone’s checked bags would be removed from the flight and delivered later after they arrived in New York.

She was worried about getting her bags

For an adult, traveling without your luggage is a major inconvenience. You might find yourself in need of a toothbrush, perhaps a T-shirt, or even, as Noe mentioned, pajamas. But all things considered, these are minor issues that most people can survive. Worse things can happen on a flight, after all.

However, Noe also happened to be traveling with an infant. Every parent understands that traveling with a baby from one city to another involves a lot of gear. Diapers, wipes, specific formula, bottles and, in Noe’s case, a stroller. So she was thinking out loud about how difficult it would be to get back to the airport a day later in a city where, by and large, people don’t have cars.

The comments section was full of people giving their two cents. One user claimed they were actually on the flight with Noe, writing, “I was on the same flight! I took the voucher. $1000! They rebooked me for tomorrow. I’m shocked to see this is what they decided to do lol.”

Another user had some suggestions, writing, “Go to baggage claim and ask for a car seat. They sometimes have them. They might have one for you. Otherwise call a driver with a car seat. They also need to deliver your bag to where you’re staying.”

One user had a tip that, frankly, was easier said than done: “This is why I never check a bag but I would think they would leave strollers and wheelchairs! Like wtf are you supposed to do! Even as someone w/o kids I’m mad on your behalf.”

She got a compromise

Whenever you get on a flight in 2026, you seemingly just have to be ready for anything. Remember that safety will always take precedence over everything else. And sometimes, your convenience might have to be pushed to the wayside to ensure it.
