Woman speechless after $90,000 AP watch disappears from famous Miami hotel. Then the staff allegedly gaslights her: ‘What do I do?’

The search for answers went nowhere.

A woman says her $90,000 Audemars Piguet Mini Royal Oak watch was stolen from her room at the Faena Hotel in Miami Beach, and she claims hotel staff denied any involvement. TikTok user Jenna Yaps (@jennasyap) shared the claim in a video that has been viewed 573,500 times and drawn more than 2,900 comments.

Yaps said she called the front desk before heading to the spa and asked staff to service her room while she was away. She said the watch was missing from her room by the time she came back.

She said hotel staff denied any wrongdoing after she raised the issue. “I was gaslit by the staff stating they interviewed everyone that was in my room and nobody took it,” she said in the video.

Creator says police and hotel have not helped her recover the watch

Yaps said she filed a police report but felt the case was not being taken seriously. “I filed a police report and obviously police don’t give a s–t about jewelry that’s stolen,” she said. She said she felt a responsibility to warn others. “I feel like I would be doing myself and you a disservice by not making this post,” she said. She also warned people not to bring valuables if they plan to stay at the hotel.

Yaps said she has not received answers from either the hotel or law enforcement. “The hotel has given me no answers and they have not been helpful, nor have the Miami Beach Police,” she said.

Toward the end of the video, she reflected on how she was handling the situation and mentioned being on medication. “I don’t know if Mercury’s in retrograde or what, or, and I feel like I’m handling this well. It’s probably because of my Lexapro,” she said. She then asked viewers, “What do I do? Has anybody had a really nice piece of jewelry stolen from them? Like, what, what can you do besides be angry at yourself and everyone else?”

The video drew a large number of comments, with many users questioning why she had such an expensive watch in her hotel room in the first place. One commenter wrote, “Girl why are you leaving a $90,000 watch in a hotel room.” Another wrote, “Hello – let me alert you I am leaving my room and will be in the spa for hours. PLEASE send and underpaid person to my room where I have left out a 90k watch.”

Some commenters gave advice on how to proceed. One wrote, “Notify AP as well so that if they take it to get serviced they will confiscate it.” Another wrote, “Get the security footage & don’t shut up until you either have your watch or a refund.” Other commenters questioned the legitimacy of her claim, with one writing, “90k on a watch? You’ll be fine,” and another writing, “They’re all in on it.”

Yaps later posted a follow-up TikTok video addressing the reactions to her original post. She said the watch was not left in plain sight. “It was completely tucked away, hidden, hidden, hidden,” she said. She also addressed comments asking why she did not use the hotel safe. “Do you guys realize the staff at the hotel can access the safe? Nothing is safe in a safe at a hotel. It just isn’t,” she said.

Yaps responded to claims that the incident was an insurance scam by saying she did not have insurance on the watch. “I didn’t claim it on my insurance because I’m the idiot that doesn’t have insurance. That is my fault. I didn’t have insurance on this piece, therefore there’s no insurance claim, therefore it can’t be a scam,” she said.

She also responded to comments criticizing her for owning an expensive watch while others said they struggle financially. “So because you’re having trouble putting food on my table, you don’t want me to make a post warning other people to keep their valuables safe when they’re traveling?” she said.

She added, “You don’t want me to warn other people about the Feyina Hotel stealing and robbing from people. You think that your troubles make it okay for people to rob me and others?” Concerns about hotel security extend beyond this incident, as another woman returned to her hotel with her father to find everything gone, even her toothbrush.

Yaps said she has since hired a lawyer and has been in contact with watch dealers who are keeping track of the watch’s serial number in case it resurfaces. “I have also obtained a lawyer and I have also gotten the attention of some of the most prominent watch dealers in the world who have helped me out with the serial number of my watch and keeping an eye out if it were to come up in their system regarding being stolen,” she said.

She added that she plans to continue posting updates. The trouble with a missing watch is not rare, as seen where an Amazon customer was left out $2,000 after allegedly receiving empty watch boxes back to back.
