OB clinic nurse says a mother and daughter came in, both pregnant. Then she learns who their partners are: ‘Surely this is a joke’

“It's all very, very strange."

Working in healthcare is difficult, stressful, and occasionally completely chaotic because of the customers that come through. Alleyne Paige Van-De-Cruize, a registered nurse who shares her experiences on TikTok and Instagram, recently posted a story that left her and the internet completely stunned. It’s the kind of situation that makes you wonder how anyone is expected to keep a straight face, even with years of professional training.

As Alleyne explained in her video, she was working in an OB clinic when she noticed two patients on the schedule with the same last name. She decided to bring them back together, only to realize they were a mother and daughter. They asked to be put in the same examination room so that they could support each other. It was out of the realm of usual practice since the rooms weren’t big enough. However, the daughter insisted that this was how they always did it.

Things got weird when the daughter allegedly asked Alleyne if she could bring her husband in. Alleyne agreed and claimed she asked the mother, “If your partner would also like to be a part of this appointment, I’m almost certain [the doctor will] have me split you guys up.” At that point, Alleyne alleged, “She points to the daughter, and she goes, ‘Oh, he’s also the father of my child.’”

Alleyne thought they were joking at first

According to the post, Alleyne said, “I said, haha, who? Who’s the father of your child? She smiles, she says, her husband. I look at the daughter. She’s also smiling. Oh. And I laugh cause I’m like, surely this is a joke. Amidst my laughter, the daughter says, I know, isn’t it great?”

Alleyne noted that she left quickly and went straight to the doctor. She claimed, “I was like, are you aware of. Of this, of all of, of, of, of. Of this?” To which the doctor allegedly responded, “Yeah, just keep them together. When they’re together, I can get them done sooner. They’re all just. It’s all very, very strange.”

As Alleyne ended her story, which is just her perspective and hasn’t been verified, she noted that the patients were not happy with her. “They gave the doctor a message to give me. Be less judgmental, b—h.,” Alleyne recounted. However, the nurse had one counterargument: “How many mothers and daughters, you know, sharing the same n—-a?” For one TikToker, her husband allegedly left her for his brother’s wife

Social media was mostly in agreement. One TikTok user commented, “ikyfl..oh im judging..im listening and dammit im judging bc huh.” Another added, “My daughter and I are close, but not that close. Never that close.” In another case, a woman alleged that her mother offered her hush money when she found out that her husband was cheating on her with her sister.

On Instagram, the reaction was just entertaining. One user wrote, “Maybe if they were a little more judgemental they wouldn’t be having kids that are their own grandparents.” A second chimed in with, “What in the brother daddy, sister aunty, and mommy grandma….”

Now, while it might be hard to maintain professional composure in a moment like this, there are actual strategies for keeping a straight face. A guide from LinkedIn suggests several ways to handle such moments. It starts with focusing on your breathing. By taking slow, deep breaths, you can regulate your nervous system. Another effective method is shifting your focus by mentally reciting a grocery list or a to-do list to get your brain out of the funny moment.

The guide noted that you can also subtly press your tongue against the roof of your mouth or lightly bite the inside of your cheek to redirect your body’s response. Maintaining a neutral facial expression is vital, so try to relax your muscles or slightly part your lips if you feel a smirk coming on. If you find yourself losing control, try blinking rapidly or looking away from the source of the laughter, as eye contact is often the biggest trigger.

You can also try reframing the situation by focusing on the gravity of the setting, or if you absolutely need an escape valve, practice silent laughter by exhaling deeply without making noise. It’s all about finding that balance between being approachable and keeping your professional cool.
