Trump calls his economy the ‘greatest we’ve ever had,’ brands the poll numbers ‘Crooked and Corrupt’

President Donald Trump reacted to new polling that shows his approval rating on the economy is going down. He called the polls “fake” and said the country has the “greatest economy we’ve ever had by far.”

Trump made these comments during a speech at a resort in Las Vegas. The event was meant to highlight his administration’s economic record and the Republican-led Working Families Tax Cuts, reports Mediaite.

“I saw polls today on television that say ‘Donald Trump polls on the economy aren’t good.’ The economy?!” Trump said. “It’s the greatest economy we’ve ever had by far. The economy aren’t [sic] good? They’re fake polls, just like fake writers.” 

Reuters/Ipsos poll shows a shift on economic trust

A Reuters/Ipsos poll released Monday found that voters now trust Democrats more than Republicans on handling the economy. This is the first time Democrats have held this advantage in almost ten years. The poll surveyed 4,505 U.S. adults and had a margin of error of two percentage points.

This was not the only polling news that upset Trump this week. Also on Monday, he posted on Truth Social about other recent polls that showed his approval rating in the low 30s. He described those polls as “Crooked and Corrupt.” 

In his Truth Social post, Trump wrote in full: “My REAL Polling Numbers, not those made up by the Fake News Media, are the best they have ever been, and why wouldn’t they be with the biggest tax cuts and employment numbers EVER, the biggest outside Investment in America in World history, a totally secure Border, a giant Victory in Venezuela, the Denuclearization of Iran, unparalleled respect and success throughout the World, and much more?”

He continued, “Don’t believe the Radical Left’s Fake Poll numbers. They are Crooked and Corrupt, just like the Country Destroying Dumocrats are Crooked and Corrupt. VOTE REPUBLICAN FOR GREATNESS IN AMERICA! Thank you for your attention to this matter! President DJT” Trump’s post emphasizes his economic achievements and global respect, a theme explored in a recent story about his comments on the economy. 

During his speech in Las Vegas, Trump also brought up the “fake news” media multiple times. He complained that the media does not give him “any credit” for his work. Despite his frustration with the coverage, Trump encouraged his supporters to stay positive. He told the crowd to “look at the bright side, I’m president.” This optimism contrasts with recent data on the economy, such as when President Trump says its raining jobs but the data shows your paycheck is getting smaller. 

The polling numbers Trump criticized come from separate surveys tracking both his handling of the economy specifically and his overall approval rating. The Reuters/Ipsos poll focused on which political party the public trusts more on economic issues, while other recent polls measured his general approval rating among voters.
