Texas woman visits a gynecologist after her period becomes unbearable. His warning about Tampax leaves her terrified: ‘There’s a lawsuit going’

Sometimes, a single doctor’s appointment can completely change your perspective on products you consider essential. TikToker Sydney Adams (sydney.adams29) recently shared one such experience on TikTok, racking up over 1.6 million views in less than 24 hours. The Texas resident went in to see her gynecologist because she was dealing with intense, persistent pain and heavy bleeding. What she left with was a warning about the tampons she uses.

In the video, Sydney explained her symptoms, saying, “My period has been absolutely f**king disgusting. I’m bleeding non-stop. My cramps are literally like I’m being stabbed.” After her mom urged her to get checked out, she finally booked an appointment. She then claimed that her doctor came in, just took one look at her and immediately headed toward the door. Then he allegedly asked, “What type of tampons do you use?” She told him she used Tampax. 

According to Sydney, he then revealed that he had seen three other patients in the last two weeks, Tampax users, with the same symptoms. He allegedly told Sydney that, based on his research, Tampax was involved in a massive class action lawsuit for containing excessive amounts of lead and arsenic. The doctor claimed that the chemicals could potentially alter a person’s reproductive cycle. He even went as far as to advise her to stop using tampons entirely.

The class action suit

This isn’t just a random internet rumor. According to Newsweek, a lawsuit filed by seven women in California targets several major companies, including Procter & Gamble, which produces Tampax. 

The plaintiffs reportedly claim that these companies sold products containing “forever chemicals,” also known as per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), as well as endocrine disruptors and carcinogens. The lawsuit alleges that these substances caused severe reproductive harms like endometriosis, ovarian cysts, and chronic heavy bleeding.

Newsweek reported that the legal action claims that these companies “failed to adequately test their products for long-term safety, failed to disclose the presence of potentially harmful chemicals, failed to provide adequate warnings regarding health risks, failed to conduct proper safety monitoring, and failed to take reasonable steps to protect consumers from foreseeable harm.” As one TikToker pointed out, as a result, women have been poisoning themselves.

Newsweek also noted that a 2025 lawsuit specifically alleged that Tampax tampons contained unsafe amounts of lead that could enter the bloodstream. According to the outlet, “forever chemicals” are synthetic substances that resist water, grease, and heat, and the International Agency for Research on Cancer has classified certain PFAS as a Group 1 carcinogen. 

Per the report, an EPA fact sheet notes that long-term exposure can lead to cancer and other serious illnesses. Furthermore, a Harvard-led study mentioned by Newsweek found an association between higher blood concentrations of certain PFAS compounds during pregnancy and an increased likelihood of daughters developing polyendocrine metabolic ovarian syndrome (PMOS).

Since Sydney posted her video, TikTokers flooded the comment section with their own experiences and concerns. One person commented, “Woman with a cooter here. def going to apply for this one on that site,” referring to the claimmoney.com website Sydney’s doctor mentioned. Of course, it should be noted that in the case of Sydney’s video, all we have is her version of events.

Other users offered alternatives, with one user noting, “Cora tampons is a wayyy better alternative! I noticed a different in my bleeding and cramps immediately after stopping tampax!” Another shared, “Switching to period underwear completely changed my period. Way less cramps, way less of a heavy flow, doesn’t last as long, and you can wear them all day without having to change them a billion times like a tampon!”

One theme that came up in the comments is the distrust with the industry. As one user noted, “Guys it’s sooo much deeper than this. Big pharma and literally EVERY company in the usa is being sued rn on that claimmoney website. GO FILE!!!”
