Woman books Airbnb in Kentucky for its charm. Then she learns it’s known for 80 funerals and paranormal hunters: ‘We were terrified’

A woman who booked an Airbnb in Kentucky for its charm says she found out only after booking that the property has a long history tied to paranormal investigations.

TikTok creator Meg, who goes by @meggymoosey online, shared her discovery in a video posted before her stay. In the clip, she is seen scrolling through a video about the property on her phone while lying on a bed.

The property is the Grand Victorian Inn in Park City, Kentucky. According to Brobible, the inn has a history that includes reports of guests hearing footsteps and voices with no clear source.

The inn has a documented history of deaths on the property

In her first video, on-screen text described the inn’s reported activity: “Guests and staff have occasionally reported strange occurrences – soft footsteps in empty hallways, faint voices late at night, and the feeling of not being alone in certain rooms.”

Reacting to the discovery, Meg said, “So we’re looking at an Airbnb we just booked and we find out it’s haunted! What the f–k?” An off-screen male voice responded, “Oh no.”

Despite the discovery, Meg said in her video caption that she was “not backing out” of the trip because of the property’s rooms. On-screen text in the same video read, “Our AirBnB is notoriously haunted and visited by ghost hunters.” Other Airbnb guests have run into their own unexpected surprises after booking, including one traveler who ended up giving her host a poor review and faced retaliation from the property owner as a result.

Brobible reported that the inn’s original founder died on the property. The building sits near railroad tracks, which the outlet said are directly connected to the founder’s death.

The outlet also reported that around 80 funerals were held inside the inn. For about 10 years, the building operated as a nursing home, during which 13 deaths were reported on site.

Meg and a travel companion went ahead with the stay but left the property shortly after arriving. In a text overlay on a follow-up video, she wrote, “Not even 45 minutes later we packed everything up. Ran out and booked an Airbnb because we were terrified.”

In that follow-up video, Meg explained what happened during her short stay. She said, “We are in this inn right now. … [We] were so excited for it. And then we found out that people had like paranormal experiences here. When we first got here it did kind of spook us out a little bit.”

Meg said being alone in the building added to the unease. She said, “I think because we were like the only people here. And we were walking around the house … we found like a doll collection … there’s Abraham Lincoln everywhere.”

Despite leaving early, Meg said she did not experience anything she would describe as paranormal. She said, “But it’s really beautiful. And I think online misinformation has gotten to us. Because nothing has happened, nothing weird has happened.” Not every booking surprise online involves ghosts – other creators have gone viral after booking a stay at a kid-friendly hotel and then complaining about the exact conditions they signed up for.

Brobible’s report came from Mustafa Gatollari, a member of the Haunted Discoveries team, which filmed at the Grand Victorian Inn for the show’s first season. The team included Brandon Alvis and was drawn to the property after hearing accounts from past guests.

The Haunted Discoveries team recorded unusual readings at the inn, including changes in pressure and electromagnetic frequency spikes, which they said coincided with train crossings nearby. The team also said it captured a disembodied voice at the location. The Grand Victorian Inn was featured in the sixth episode of the show’s first season. 

The Grand Victorian Inn is one of several Kentucky properties the “Haunted Discoveries” team has investigated, including the Louisville Bourbon Inn and the DuPont Mansion.

At the Louisville Bourbon Inn, the outlet said the team recorded a black shadow figure walking up a staircase, which it linked to a long-standing story about a spirit associated with the property.

Some inn owners have reportedly expressed concern that stories about hauntings could discourage paying guests from booking their properties. Gatollari says the Haunted Discoveries team has been turned down for investigation requests for this reason in the past.
