Woman’s TikTok video about her workplace experience gains traction. Then she is terminated with immediate effect: ‘I was asked to take it down’

A TikTok about life as a junior lawyer has taken an unexpected turn for creator Natali after the video gained traction online. What started as a discussion about her experience in the profession has now left her facing an uncertain next step in her career.

Natali explained the situation in a follow-up TikTok, where she said she had officially received a termination letter at around 9 a.m. the previous day. According to her account, the decision was effective immediately.

She connected the termination to the earlier TikTok, which focused on what she described as the challenges faced by junior lawyers. Natali stressed that she did not identify the firm or any clients in the post and said she did not share client files or other information that could identify the firm.

“I didn’t make that TikTok, um, to put the firm in disrepute,” she said. “I haven’t actually put the firm in disrepute. I didn’t mention names. I didn’t mention client files. I didn’t mention, uh, the firm and the name of the business.”

Natali said the situation changed as the original post reached a wider audience. She acknowledged that she understood the possibility of the TikTok reaching her employer and said she was prepared for the consequences once engagement began increasing.

“I was fully aware that my TikTok could come back around to them and it’s well and truly did come around back to them,” she said.

Workplace complaints can quickly take on a different life when they are shared publicly, especially when employees discuss their experiences on the job and those posts eventually reach the people they work for.

She also claimed that she was asked to remove the TikTok during a conversation with her employer. Natali said she stood by what she had posted and described the discussion as “very awkward” and “very confronting.”

“I was asked to take it down,” she said, adding that she was also “threatened that I will no longer be employable.”

Natali’s account has received a mixture of support and criticism in the comments. One commenter questioned the decision to put a career at risk over social media, writing, “Crazy how people are willing to risk their careers for TikTok.” 

Others took a more sympathetic view of the outcome, writing, “Oh wow u dodged a bullet honestly,” while Jeane’ I Wellness & Lifestyle focused on Natali’s apparent change in mood, commenting, “Well you look a lot happier in this video.”

For Natali, the support she has received appears to be part of why she remains comfortable with how events unfolded. She said she already feels liberated despite no longer having the job and is looking forward to spending time with her dog, whom she said she had not seen in weeks because of work.

“I can’t tell you how excited I am and how free I feel already,” Natali said.

The situation also raises a practical problem for professionals who discuss their working lives online, particularly when a creator’s online presence overlaps with their professional identity.
