A woman has taken to TikTok to call out her local Walmart after she claims staff accused her of stealing her own sweatshirt. Despite proving to the employee who accused her that the sweatshirt actually came from Disney World and not the store she was in, the worker still threatened to call the police on her.
TikToker Tiffany Nicole claimed that she only went into the Walmart for two items. While in the store, she took her sweatshirt off and, when she reached the self-checkout, placed it next to her with her phone on top. She claimed she was then approached by an employee who asked, “So you don’t want these items?” while holding up her sweatshirt.
Nicole says she tried explaining to the Walmart worker that the sweatshirt was actually hers and wasn’t something she’d picked up from the store, but the employee wasn’t having it, evidently believing the sweatshirt to be stolen goods. “She’s like, ‘Um, you know, ma’am, I’m really gonna have to call someone about this. Like, are you sure you didn’t get this somewhere in the store?’”
The conversation continues back and forth as Nicole tries to convince the worker that the sweatshirt was indeed hers and that she bought it at Disney World. She also tells the worker they can check the cameras.
Workers threaten to call the police
The employee eventually left Nicole alone, so she grabbed her stuff and headed for the exit. As she did, she claims she was chased by the same employee who had now returned with a manager in tow. Nicole says the two Walmart workers told her they needed to take her to the back room to check that the sweatshirt didn’t come from the store.
“At this point I am getting very, very agitated,” Nicole said. “I honestly was like, ‘guys, I’m not doing this; I know I didn’t steal; I have my receipt; I walked in with this, and I’m walking out.’” Both employees allegedly continued to overstep the mark and even threatened to call the police: “They are like screaming at me, saying they’re gonna call the police.” The threats didn’t deter Nicole, who walked out anyway.
While Nicole claimed that the police never showed up, viewers couldn’t help but wonder what could have happened had things been different: “And if it was their merchandise that you had previously purchased?? Then what??” asked one person. “As a Walmart employee myself, please file a complaint about this.” Another comment reads, “They are not allowed to do that,” they added.
Others claimed that Nicole might have grounds to sue the company for accusing her of something she’s adamant she didn’t do.
