Indiana server gets a $50 tip. Then the customers try to set him up with their daughter: ‘told them i like boys’

'The tip came with a family plan'

A generous tip at a restaurant table can sometimes lead to more than a simple thank-you, and a new video out of Indiana is a reminder of that. What starts as a fairly ordinary shift for one server takes an unexpected turn once the check is settled.

The clip, posted by Kaleb on TikTok, begins simply enough. A table leaves him a $50 tip. According to the video’s on-screen text, the same customers then tried to set him up with their daughter.

Kaleb’s response is short and matter of fact. In the caption, he writes, “and then i told them i like boys. In which they responded, “oh we have a son too.” The customers apparently didn’t let the matchmaking end there, instead responding with another option. The video runs only a few seconds and is filmed from behind a service area as he continues working, ending with a shrug and a return to the shift.

They had a backup plan

Clips like this have become a regular part of restaurant TikTok, where servers and bartenders post quick, text-overlaid recaps of odd customer encounters. Tip-related posts tend to do well in this format because a generous tip can sometimes come with an unexpected story attached, making the dollar amount and the interaction enough to carry the video.

The comments had plenty to say about the attempted matchmaking. One person wrote, “They wanted you in the family one way or another,” while another kept it short with, “Oh they LIKED you.”

Further down, a different commenter shared a similar experience of their own, writing, “Had a older couple try to set me up with their grandson, FULL ON CALLED HIM AND HANDED ME THE PHONE. I explained I’m more into girls (even tho im bi) and they said “Oh we got a granddaughter too!!!” and proceeded to CALL HER INSTEAD.”

Kaleb hasn’t posted a follow-up about what happened after the exchange, and the customers haven’t been identified. The clip remains a brief workplace encounter that took an unexpected turn.

For now, viewers seem to be taking the story in the spirit Kaleb presented it, with his answer keeping an awkward interaction light.
