Custom bakers who sell through TikTok often rely on word of mouth to win new customers. A San Antonio mother named Karla now claims one of those bakers took her money for two birthday cakes and then stopped responding, according to The Nerd Stash.
Karla said she found the baker, identified only as Kass, on TikTok in early September. Kass was reportedly running a promotion on custom six-inch cakes at $35 each. Karla liked the idea as her two daughters, aged 13 and 10, celebrate birthdays just five days apart, and the girls wanted separate birthday cakes this year instead of sharing one.
After reading the positive reviews on the baker’s profile, Karla reportedly ordered two birthday cakes for pickup on October 17. According to the mom, Kass accepted the order, took payment in advance, and gave Karla a pickup address. However, the situation changed when Karla tried to confirm the details in October.
Karla says the baker vanished right before the party
She claims to have noticed that the TikTok account she used to find the baker was gone. She tried to track the baker down on Facebook, but those messages went nowhere. Karla then reportedly reached out to the baker’s father, as he had previously posted about his daughter’s business on Facebook.
He apparently gave her a phone number, and Karla eventually got in touch with Kass. However, the relief was short-lived, as the baker allegedly stopped answering calls and texts again when the party got closer. When Karla went back to the father, he reportedly said he was surprised by his daughter’s behavior and agreed that ignoring a paying customer was “unprofessional.”
Karla said she never heard back, and the birthday cakes never arrived. According to the mom, her younger daughter has special needs and had been especially excited for a cake featuring a favorite character, she explained. “You didn’t just steal something from me. You took something from my children,” Karla said. “They didn’t do nothing to you.”
Karla said a simple message admitting the order could not be finished, along with a refund, would have fixed the issue. She ended her video by warning others against ordering from the baker. “Everybody, do not order from her. Do not order cakes from Kass because she’s just gonna take your money. She’s gonna scam you,” Karla claimed.
In an update video, Karla alleges that Kass has reached out to her, however, with threats of police and reportedly bringing her children into the conversation. Home bakers on TikTok have landed in viral disputes before. A Nebraska baker was accused of copying a recipe by a bigger creator, while another baker described a creepy cake delivery to a client who never appeared. Karla’s complaint differs, as it centers on money she says she already paid.
