McDonald’s messes up Ohio couple’s order. Then her boyfriend orders over 100 double cheeseburgers for $429 and walks away

An Ohio couple found out a unique way to take revenge after McDonald’s allegedly messed up their order. The boyfriend added 100 Double Cheeseburgers to a self-service kiosk order before strolling away. The video, posted by Savanna Peth (@savannapeth200313) has drawn more than 515,000 views and nearly 20,000 likes, with viewers quickly pointing out a catch that meant the restaurant never actually received the massive order.

In the video, Peth’s partner repeatedly taps the plus button next to a Double Cheeseburger, watching the quantity climb until it reaches 100. The kiosk displays a total of $429 and 44,000 calories before he taps “Add to Order,” bringing up a confirmation that the items were added to the bag. He then continues through the kiosk prompts without completing payment.

The man eventually walks away, leaving the $429 order unpaid on the screen. While the stunt may look like a way to punish McDonald’s for getting their original order wrong, commenters familiar with the chain’s kiosks explained that unpaid orders do not appear to kitchen staff. In other words, despite the video’s caption claiming he ordered more than 100 cheeseburgers, the restaurant never started preparing them.

Several people who commented on the post focused on how self-service kiosk orders function. One commenter pointed out that payment is required before an order appears for staff, writing, “You have to pay for it even if you select pay at counter the order doesn’t pop up until the order is paid for but cute.” This isn’t the first time a fast-food order has sparked online outrage, such as a Tiktoker who says he witnessed a woman order 50 ice creams and throw them away. 

Another viewer made a similar observation, stating, “unless you pay for it, it doesn’t pop up on the screen.” A third commenter concluded, “So yall didn’t order 100 cheeseburgers.” 

One person described the practical side of the process in more detail, writing, “Wastes ur time. It never showed up. Have to pull those up on the register if you pick pay a counter. They never see those 100 cheeseburgers.” For McDonald’s, the complaints don’t stop at order accuracy, as one Ohio man’s drive-through total for 5 Big Macs and 50 nuggets came to exactly $69. 

Another commenter who appeared to work in a kitchen offered a response to the situation, saying, “we’re just a people too, it’s so easy to make a mistake in the kitchen everything has to be fast there, fresh, good looking and tasty even if yall think the chicken nuggets or smth is old it isn’t i have to redo it every 5 minutes if it isn’t packed.. You can just say it at the front and i’m 100% sure we will do it again and right.”

One more viewer suggested an alternative approach, writing, “next time do it in the drive through and they’ll actually start making it. if you do it when it’s backed up then it should give them more time to make it all before realizing that you left.”
