Man returns to Louis Vuitton for a cologne refill. Then he finds out he reached his yearly limit and they banned him: ‘bro it’s crazy’

Commenters suggested he was decanting or reselling samples.

A TikTok creator who goes by Joe posted a video from inside a car while wearing a grey hoodie and a black baseball cap. In the clip he holds up an empty clear glass perfume bottle with a black cap and on-screen text that reads “Banned from Louis Vuitton.”

Joe said in the video that he had returned to Louis Vuitton for a refill of his Imagination cologne. He stated, “I’m banned from Louis Vuitton and they legitimately will not let me refill this bottle.”

He explained that staff told him he had reached his limit on refills for the whole year and that he could not buy anything else from the brand. Joe added, “I’ve just never seen a brand not take people’s money, especially on something with such a high margin like cologne, bro It’s crazy.”

Joe describes refill visits and replies to viewers

Joe said in a reply video that he runs through a bottle of cologne in about three months. He asked how some people make their bottles last one to two years and stated, “I swear to God, my s–t’s gone immediately.”

He added that two sprays would last a whole year and that two years seemed even more unusual to him. The original video caption read, “Louis Vuitton won’t let me refill my Imagination.”

In another reply, Joe said people believed he had refilled 100 times in one year. He stated that Louis Vuitton bans a person after 12 refills in a year, that he is banned on about five different accounts, and that the total is closer to 60 rather than 100. Louis Vuitton’s customer service controversies extend beyond refill limits, as a Black customer was recently stopped at the door and questioned by staff.

He noted that 100 refills would cost around 45 grand. Joe also said he paid $550 for the original bottle and that he resells samples. He stated he walks in spending about two grand, and that people act as if the brand hands the product out for free.

The Louis Vuitton website FAQ page titled “Where Can I Get Refills for Perfumes & Beauty Products?” states that perfume, cologne, and travel-size fragrance refills are available only in select stores that offer the Fragrance Collection and that the bottle must be completely empty. For the brand, customer service issues extend beyond refill limits, as one Charlotte woman’s Louis Vuitton sunglasses went missing from a JetBlue suitcase.

The same page says refills on eligible products are available through select Louis Vuitton stores and online, depending on the product type, and that discontinued products cannot be refilled. Beauty product refills require a Louis Vuitton refillable cartridge or case.

One commenter wrote that their own perfumes last one to two years and added, “They know what your doing.” Joe replied with the video about how quickly his bottles empty.

Another commenter wrote, “100+ refills in 1 year bro what do you expect.” Joe responded by giving the 12-refill figure and the multiple-account total.

A further commenter wrote, “Because you are reselling there product.” Joe replied that he paid for the bottle and spends money in the store when he goes in. One commenter said, “It’s because they know your decanting bro.”
