Tampa server says a table asked for free items throughout the meal. Then they tipped her one cent

This family allegedly returned 40 minutes later to tell her manager she is dumb.

A Tampa server said in a TikTok video that one table in her section asked for free items during their meal and later told her to keep the change on a nearly even bill. Makenzie, who posts as @cokekenz, shared the story. The video has 86,300 views and 19,800 likes. The caption on the post reads, “Not looking good for the weekend coming up.”

Makenzie said she filmed the video from her car because she had to keep driving it until a problem returned. She stated that mechanics could not find anything wrong when she brought the car in while it was running normally. She then turned to what she described as a rough shift with several tables acting poorly.

She said one table interrupted her as soon as she started introducing herself. Makenzie stated she told them her name was Kenzie and went to get their drinks and bread. While greeting another newly seated table, she said she had heard a loud “Excuse me” from the first group.

Server describes birthday request, extra bread, and a one-cent tip

Makenzie said a booth between the two tables told the woman to stop yelling because they could hear her. She stated that the group tipped her well and also left a Jesus pamphlet. She added that the first table then asked if they could get anything free because it was someone’s birthday.

She said she told them the restaurant does not give free items unless the guest is a rewards member. Makenzie stated they were not members and that signing up usually takes 24 to 48 hours. She said they asked for extra of everything and received six baskets of bread, including three extra ones after their entrees arrived.

Near the end of the meal, she said the mother asked again whether they would get anything free for the birthday. Makenzie stated they declined dessert. She said the bill was $69.99, and the table handed her $70 and told her to keep the change.

“One penny? One cent?!” she said in the video as she described the tip. She added that they later asked for more things after they had already paid. Makenzie said she viewed the request for free items earlier as a sign of how the visit would end. Unexpected consequences can follow stingy tips, as in a separate incident where a server received a $1 tip from three women, and they made a request that led to their arrest.

She stated that the group left and returned about 30 to 40 minutes later. According to Makenzie, they went to the hostess and asked for a manager. She said they told the manager she did not know what she was talking about, called her dumb, and claimed she refused to honor a birthday reward.

Makenzie said they had signed up for the rewards program in the parking lot and then returned. She stated her manager came to her and repeated what the table had said. Makenzie added that she spoke loudly at the host desk while the group waited in the lobby. She said the mother was using a walker.

She also said the same table had been on Instagram Live while speaking to her. Makenzie described another table from the same night that asked her to take dirty dishes while she was greeting guests next to them.

She stated she told the guest she would take the dishes when she finished with the table she was already helping. These kinds of challenging customer interactions are not uncommon, such as when a server faced a table of prom kids who left her with a large bill.

Viewers responded in the comments. One person wrote, “Ugh! Your manager still gave them the free dessert!?!?! I hate that, it just reinforces their crummy behavior!!” Another commenter asked, “Why is the world against you?”

A third person shared a similar tipping story and wrote, “One time a table left me a nickel, and I slid it right back to him and said “you clearly need this more than I do”” Someone else remarked, “she really tipped you in a currency that doesn’t exist anymore”

Another viewer suggested a policy change and wrote, “I think every check should have an automatic 15% and if they want to leave more they can add more. Cause leaving NOTHING is insane” A final commenter tied the clip back to the series name and wrote, “Everytime I see these videos, I always feel like I am, in fact, not on earth.”
