The Naughty Will Be Punished In First Silent Night Trailer

While I don't necessarily believe in promoting Christmas until I've punished my stomach with a lavish Thanksgiving feast, I'll make an exception as long as horror movies are involved. Accompanying the first glimpses into Steven C. Miller's pseudo-remake Silent Night, Anchor Bay has released the first official trailer full of holiday cheer, Santa costumes, and multiple gratifying Christmas slayings.

While I don’t necessarily believe in promoting Christmas until I’ve punished my stomach with a lavish Thanksgiving feast, I’ll make an exception as long as horror movies are involved. Accompanying the first glimpses into Steven C. Miller’s pseudo-remake Silent Night, Anchor Bay has released the first official trailer full of holiday cheer, Santa costumes, and multiple gratifying Christmas slayings.

While the trailer starts off in the most clichéd way possible, obviously kicking in with a choral rendition of the traditional Christmas carol Silent Night, Holy Night, an evil Santa brings us back into the horror world by using a taser on a small, greedy girl. Cue the fabled story of a crazed man who goes town to town killing people around Christmas, showing a few holiday themed killings that turn some of the most iconic symbols of Christmas into horrifying tools of death.

Lead actress Jamie King portrays Aubrey Bradimore, a local cop who must solve the case of the killer St. Nick amongst one of the busiest nights in town, and the trailer has me thankfully thinking Silent Night will be another film to further our young scream queen’s growing horror repertoire.

King will be joined by a cast that includes Ellen Wong (Scott Pilgrim vs. The World), Lisa Marie (Sleepy Hollow), Brendan Fehr (X-Men: First Class), Donal Logue (Shark Night 3D), and most famously, Malcolm McDowell (A Clockwork Orange).

It’s a solid cast that I have no doubts about, but the trailer doesn’t do a great job showing off Malcolm McDowell, as his character Sheriff Cooper doesn’t seem like a role suited for him. I can’t put my finger on it, he just seems out-of-place. But hell, McDowell is a great actor, and knows the horror genre, so I refuse to make any grand judgements off about 2 minutes of footage.

Silent Night will see a limited release November 30th, 2012, but if you don’t have a showing within driving distance, be sure to pick up the DVD/Blu-Ray home release December 4th, 2012!

So what do you guys think of the trailer, do we have another Christmas horror classic?
