Namco Bandai May Be Moving Tekken X Street Fighter To Next-Gen

With Street Fighter X Tekken releasing last year to mixed reviews and lots of DLC controversy, many gamers (myself included) have moved on and completely forgot that the game was just one piece of a two part deal between Namco Bandai and Capcom. With Street Fighter X Tekken releasing last year to mixed reviews and lots of DLC controversy, many gamers (myself included) have moved on and completely forgot that the game was just one piece of a two part deal between Namco Bandai and Capcom. That’s right, Namco’s Tekken X Street Fighter game is still missing in action, despite the fact that it was announced alongside Capcom’s game back in July 2010.

Responding to a question about the missing half of Namco’s deal, producer Katsuhiro Harada tweeted to his followers that they are “changing & considering platform strategy” for Tekken X Street Fighter, and “that’s why [they] don’t say anything [about the game]”.

While not a confirmation, Harada’s response seems to indicate that Namco Bandai may have moved development of the fighter over to the next generation consoles. Considering that (at least) the PlayStation 4 is due out later this year, moving Tekken X Street Fighter the next-gen Microsoft and Sony consoles — or a split-gen release — would seem to be a reasonable idea.

Regardless of its intended platforms, it has been quite a long time since we have heard anything about Tekken X Street Fighter, so it is impossible to tell just how far along development is. The only media that Namco Bandai ever released of the game was Ryu’s rendered face (pictured above) back in August 2010 at GamesCom. Aside from that brief tease, Katsuhiro Harada revealed in May 2011 that work on the project had not “really” even started.

Now it is almost two years later and the only update that we have on Tekken X Street Fighter is that Namco Bandai is still deciding on what platforms to release it on. Not exactly the most promising of signs.

At any rate, once any official information is released on Tekken X Street Fighter we will let you know. Just don’t be holding your breath, because Namco doesn’t seem to be in any hurry to get the game finished.
