Spanish-language network Univision have announced that they intend to bring From Dusk Till Dawn back…as a TV show. The network, which is aimed primarily at Latin Americans, have teamed up with Robert Rodriguez’s El Rey Network to revive the vampire romp.

This won’t be the first spin-off for Rodriguez’s cons-on-the-run caper. The original 1996 film, scripted by Quentin Tarantino, spawned two straight-to-video sequels. From Dusk Till Dawn 2: Texas Blood Money and From Dusk Till Dawn 3: The Hangman’s Daughter were mediocre successes critically and financially.

Little else was revealed about the direction the series might take or who is being circled to star. The original film starred George Clooney, Harvey Keitel, Quentin Tarantino and Juliette Lewis. Desperate to get over the border into Mexico, Clooney and Tarantino’s criminal brothers, Seth and Richard Gecko, hijack and hide in Keitel’s family RV. Once over the border, their luck turns sour as the bar intended for their rendezvous is not what it seems.

This newly forged partnership between the two networks has not one, but two new series on their shared slate. Univision president Cesar Conde says they aim to create “fun, fast-paced entertainment.” Co-owner of the El Rey Network, Rodriguez, at the network’s launch said “The El Rey Network will be the home of kick-ass entertainment.” From the sounds of this announcement, he could be right.

The second project in the pipeline for the El Rey Network is a joint effort. In development with Star Trek Into Darkness writers Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman is another as-yet-untitled action series. The reboot maestros are developing quite a taste for adapting for the small screen. The first trailer for the duo’s next TV reboot, an updated version of Sleepy Hollow, arrived yesterday.

From Dusk Till Dawn and the Kurtzman-Orci outing will debut on the El Rey Network which is set to launch sometime later this year.
