Sony: PlayStation 4 Will Only Cost $399.99 At Launch

The next generation console war got off to a riveting start this evening, as Sony's suits poked fun at Microsoft's Xbox One DRM restrictions by announcing that their much talked-about new console will play used games without any issues, and won't need to be connected to the Internet every so often. That's all great, and makes me very happy, but what really has me excited is the system's unexpectedly low price tag of $399.99. Yes, you read that right; the PlayStation 4 will only cost you $400 if you live in North America land, and other regions throughout the world will be offered the same price (based off of their currencies, of course).

The next generation console war got off to a riveting start this evening, as Sony’s suits poked fun at Microsoft’s Xbox One DRM restrictions by announcing that their much talked-about new console will play used games without any issues, and won’t need to be connected to the Internet every so often.

That’s all great, and makes me very happy, but what really has me excited is the system’s unexpectedly low price tag of $399.99. Yes, you read that right; the PlayStation 4 will only cost you $400 if you live in North America land, and other regions throughout the world will be offered the same price (based off of their currencies, of course).

By launching at such a fair price tag, Sony has positioned the PS4 for success, and it won’t be a surprise if the system gets off to a great start, wholly exceeding Microsoft’s answer in sales. After all, there’s a one hundred dollar difference between the two consoles, and Sony currently has the best announced game line-up, and the fairest DRM.

Microsoft may have screwed itself, but only time will tell. We’ll have to wait and see how the millions of consumers out there react to this news. With their wallets, that is.

PlayStation 4 will be out this holiday season, but you already knew that, didn’t you?
