Mitch Hurwitz Is Working On The Arrested Development Movie Right Now

All that anticipation for the fourth season of Arrested Development, and now it's done. Everybody splurged the first day, despite Mitch Hurwitz's explicit warnings not to do that, and now the fans are bereft. We enjoyed it, but the popular opinion appears to be that it was a little underwhelming. Although, when your first three seasons are amongst the best of any sitcom ever, with the benefit of being eulogised during the show's absence, the returning fourth season will always be difficult to pull off, and looking at the season objectively, they definitely did it in style.

Never one to shy away from a challenge, Mitch Hurwitz told Rolling Stone:

I’m working on the movie right nowI can’t get into much more detail because I don’t want to scare anybody off. I don’t want to be presumptuous about it. I don’t own the property outright – it’s a 20th Century Fox property. But everybody seems really into it and really eager to make a movie.

So that long-rumoured movie (we had it “on the way” in 2011) is definitely an active property, as of right now, but nobody has officially signed off on it. For how long this will be the case, nobody knows.

Hurwitz goes on:

I’m hoping it happens as soon as possible… But I want to be very careful about not putting out false information. I want to get a time and tell everybody when it’s happening and not play with people. Right now, I’m trying to do something else for Netflix and a movie project and things. I’m always sort of superstitious about talking about this stuff before it happens. It’s the best way to guarantee it doesn’t happen.

It’s happening, and he’s working on it, but nothing is official. Nothing is greenlit yet, so put away your blue paint and frozen bananas for now. The article goes on to say that Hurwitz’s eventual goal is to make season 5 of the show, after the movie is finished with. This, when combined with the news that Netflix definitely wants another season, probably makes for a more realistic prospect. The Arrested Development movie is such a mythical being at this point that it could only be a disappointment.

What a downer ending, right? Didn’t expect that when you clicked this story, huh? Sound off in the comments below.
