Let it be known that the folks at Telltale Games aren’t resting on their laurels after all the acclaim that The Walking Dead received last year. At tonight’s VGX awards, not only did they announce plans for a game based on Game of Thrones, but also revealed an in-development title spun off from Gearbox Software’s mega-popular Borderlands series, set for release next year.

Going by the name Tales From the Borderlands, details are currently scarce on the freshly announced title, but a debut trailer was provided, which can be viewed below. Things look to still likely be set on the planet Pandora, but will apparently revolve around different characters than the first two games in the series.

I’d say that this is the very definition of a surprise announcement and I don’t think anyone saw it coming. Then again, Telltale included the iconic Borderlands robot Claptrap in their own Poker Night 2, so that may have been a sly hint at things to come.

In any case, we will keep you updated on news regarding Tales From the Borderlands and other Telltale projects as more news drops.

Check out the trailer below and let us know what you think in the comments section.
