Adult Swim Renews Rick and Morty For Season 2

With the future of his NBC comedy Community once again in doubt, Dan Harmon can rest assured that at least one of his shows will get another season. Deadline reported earlier today that Adult Swim has renewed Rick and Morty, created by Harmon and Justin Roiland, for a second season. The twisted, inventive, brilliantly dark and incredibly funny sitcom features Rick, a mad, alcoholic, dimension-hopping scientist dragging his dim grandson Morty along with him on crazy and completely dangerous missions through the universe.

Though the future of his NBC comedy Community is once again up in the air, Dan Harmon can rest assured that at least one of his shows will be getting another season.

Rick and Morty is one of Adult Swim’s first primetime shows, airing on Mondays at 10:30 pm. It returns from a brief hiatus on March 10 for the final four episodes of its first season, and has become a ratings hit for the network, so it’s no real surprise that it’s getting renewed.

It is great news though, because the show is awesome and is well worth your attention. As far as when season 2 will air? That’s still a mystery, and the frantic, nonsensical way that the episodes have aired so far doesn’t really help. Harmon, who has had tremendous ups and downs with Community over the years, seems relieved that Rick and Morty has been renewed without a fuss:

“I am excited to make as much Rick and Morty as Adult Swim allows, and I’m relieved to be in a time slot of no strategic value to CBS.”

Rick and Morty stars the voice talent of Justin Roiland as the titular characters, along with Chris Parnell, Spencer Grammer, and Sarah Chalke.
