Mario Kart 8! As easy as it is to shrug off the existence of a new Mario Kart, it’s equally as easy to squeal in delight upon watching the trailers that Nintendo has been slowly trickling out leading up to the game’s release. Today, the company finally dropped the info we’ve been wanting – Mario Kart 8 will hit the Wii U on May 30th.

Also revealed are 7 — yes, 7 — newcomers to the Mario Kart fold. Basically, these are the 7 Koopalings that act as mini-bosses in dozens of Mario titles, and their names are as follows.

  • Iggy
  • Morton
  • Lemmy
  • Ludwig
  • Roy
  • Wendy
  • Larry

I’ll be honest – I never knew all of the names before. Though these guys were originally designated as Bowser’s kids back when they first appeared in Super Mario Bros. 3, apparently they’re just his miniaturized lackeys now. Frankly, it doesn’t bother me either way – they will be equally fun to race!

As cool as it would be to release Mario Kart 8 on May 8th, it’s actually coming May 30th – a few extra weeks I surely don’t mind enduring if the game lives up to its looks.
