Greendale Human Beings, rejoice! Community, NBC’s gloriously witty and inventive comedy, may actually fulfill its promise of six seasons and a movie, according to a recent TV Guide report.

Though a renewal for the veteran underdog, currently in the midst of its fifth season, is not yet assured, the report suggests that NBC may order a thirteen-episode sixth season due to the fact that it didn’t launch a single successful comedy last fall – The Michael J. Fox Show, Sean Saves the World and Welcome to the Family all floundered in the ratings and were eventually axed.

What’s more, rumors have been circulating on the web that NBC and Harmon are “considering” Fast & Furious 6 director Justin Lin to direct a cinematic finale for the show. That may seem like an odd choice, but Lin actually has a history with Community; he directed three episodes of the show, including “Modern Warfare,” long thought to be one of Community‘s finest outings.

Of course, Lin’s hectic schedule (he has the next Bourne film and a TV project called Scorpion lined up) may prevent him from becoming involved, but it would definitely be nice to see the project in the hands of someone familiar with the show.

Community is currently in the middle of an absolutely terrific fifth season, thanks to the return of showrunner/creative genius Dan Harmon. Many longtime fans of the show almost gave up on it last season when Harmon was sacked and replaced by Moses Port and Dave Guarascio, who proceeded to deliver a grotesque, unfunny parody of the beloved series. Luckily, Harmon’s involvement has seen the show return to form with a string of gut-bustingly funny episodes, despite the departure of stars Donald Glover and Chevy Chase.

“Six seasons and a movie” has been a rallying cry for fans ever since the phrase was uttered by fan favorite Abed (Danny Pudi) in a season 2 episode, but few actually believed that the cult show would be able to fight off cancellation for long enough to fulfill that promise, so news that there may be discussions going on about Community‘s future is absolutely thrilling. Now all Harmon needs to do is rope Donald Glover back in somehow and this rabid fan will be satisfied.

Community is airing its awesome fifth season on Thursdays at 8 p.m. on NBC. Check it out – with Harmon at the helm again, it’s become the funniest show on television.
