Sledgehammer Games is preparing to unveil Call of Duty 2014 on the morning of May 4th, according to the game’s official webpage.

In typical, covert fashion, the teaser site offers nothing more than a hazy image of a solider, presumably, with a counter ticking down towards that all important reveal at 10 a.m. ET. Elsewhere, a secondary image (which you can glimpse above) hints that the story will at the very least allude to the Golden Gate Bridge.

Additionally, the title of the page reads: “Get ready for a New Era of Call of Duty.” It’s understood that that era in particular will be ushered in by none other than Sledgehammer Games as part of the franchise’s new three-year development cycle. Before today’s tease, the studio also hinted at the game’s character models during a presentation at 2014’s Game Developers Conference, though it also offered precious few details.

Earlier this week, premature reports surfaced suggesting that the game would be titled Call of Duty: Patriots and take place during World War I; however, it has since been proved that that obscure rumour was wholly fake.

Ultimately, Sledgehammer has confirmed that Call of Duty 2014 will indeed be built from the ground up for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, thus avoiding the problems Ghosts faced by straddling two console generations.

Be sure to check back in a few days when we’ll have full coverage of Call of Duty 2014’s long-awaited reveal.

May the 4th be with you.
