CBS is welcoming Jennifer Love Hewitt back to the network as a series regular on the tenth season of Criminal Minds. The actress will play a veteran undercover agent named Katie Callahan on the show, and her character will be introduced during the season premiere on October 1.

“We’re thrilled to introduce a new special agent by adding the very talented Jennifer Love Hewitt to our amazing cast,” said executive producer and showrunner Erica Messer. “Many of us on the show have enjoyed working with her over the years and look forward to again. We have exciting storylines planned for her character and the entire BAU team as we head into our 10th season.”

Criminal Minds already boasts a phenomenal cast that includes Joe Mantegna, Thomas Gibson, Shemar Moore, Matthew Gray Gubler, AJ Cook and Kirsten Vangsness.

Hewitt previously starred on CBS’s hit supernatural drama The Ghost Whisperer, which was cancelled in 2010 after five seasons on the air. The actress went on to star on Lifetime’s The Client List which despite high ratings only made it through two seasons. According to Deadline, Lifetime and Sony TV opted to cancel the show after a conflict between Hewitt, who also served as executive producer of the series, and the creative direction of the show.

Although Hewitt is used to be the lead on projects she’s been a part of recently, this is a great opportunity for her to expand her acting skills. It’s a bit different from what she’s been doing lately, but could turn out to be an incredible experience for the longtime film/television actress.

Criminal Minds returns to CBS this fall.
