FX’s hit biker drama, Sons of Anarchy, has brought the network its highest ratings yet, but it hasn’t brought home much in the way of awards.

Once again, Sons of Anarchy has been snubbed when it comes to Emmy nominations, and with only one season to go, it’s started to create a growing dialogue among fans of the show. SOA hasn’t received any acting attention during its six-season run, and the seventh and final season is looming.

Charlie Hunnam, star of FX’s hit show, has a different perception about the situation than some of his co-stars. Earlier today, during the Television Critics Association’s summer press tour, the actor made a bold statement regarding the perennial snub.

“Lest we forget, it doesn’t matter at all. I feel there’s this perception that we’re upset about this and.… I really don’t give a shit,” he said to laughs from his co-stars and producers. “I make this for the people that watch the show and I really care for me about the work that I do and for my friends that watch it. People don’t appreciate it. You can’t win them all.”

It’s refreshing to hear that an actor isn’t motivated by the accolades that come along with the craft, and I’m sure fans appreciate hearing that they rank high in Hunnam’s mind.

Showrunner Kurt Sutter always has a humorous (sometimes borderline aggressive) comeback to the TV Academy after each set of nominations, making it well-known how he feels about the series deserving an award. Sutter, who was in attendance during Hunnam’s remarks, replied good-naturedly to his lead actor with, “I want an Emmy. I’ll be honest. I would like an Emmy.”

Sons of Anarchy returns to FX on September 9th at 10/9 PM for its final season.
