Warner Bros. Slots American Sniper, Moves Point Break And The Man From U.N.C.L.E

Last week, Warner Bros. dropped a massive bombshell by scheduling nine new DC Comics films in addition to two LEGO Movie follow-ups and two 'WB Event Films' which may or may not be Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them sequels. And though this week's crop of release date announcements isn't anywhere near as earthshaking, there are still some exciting projects we now know when to mark our calendars for.

Last week, Warner Bros. dropped a massive bombshell by scheduling nine new DC Comics films in addition to two LEGO Movie follow-ups and two ‘WB Event Films’ which may or may not be Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them sequels. And though this week’s crop of release date announcements isn’t anywhere near as earthshaking, there are still some exciting projects that we now know when to mark our calendars for.

First up, the Clint Eastwood-directed American Sniper has been set for a limited bow on December 25th, 2014, suggesting that the studio believes in the drama’s Oscar chances. It stars Bradley Cooper as decorated marksman Chris Kyle, whose memoir American Sniper: The Autobiography Of The Most Lethal Sniper In U.S. Military History was adapted by Jason Dean Hall (Paranoia). The film will follow that limited release by going wide on January 16th next year.

Additionally, Guy Ritchie’s long-in-development take on the spy series The Man From U.N.C.L.E. has been shifted from its January 16th, 2015, to August 14th next year. The move is a clear show of confidence from Warner Bros. in the project, which stars Armie Hammer, Henry Cavill, Hugh Grant, Elizabeth Debicki, Alicia Vikander and Jared Harris. In the 1960s-set Man From U.N.C.L.E., two secret agents (Hammer and Cavill) team up to take down a shadowy organization devoted to unleashing global terror.

Next, 2015’s Point Break remake has been bumped up one week from August 7th to July 3rd. Again centering on a young undercover FBI agent who infiltrates a gang of thieves with an inclination towards extreme sports, the remake stars Édgar Ramírez as Bodhi, Luke Bracey as Johnny Utah, Teresa Palmer as Tyler and Ray Winstone as an FBI Agent. Ericson Core (Invincible) will direct from a script by Kurt Wimmer (Salt, the Total Recall redo).

Warner Bros. has also dated two untitled horror flicks simply known as ‘Untitled New Line Horror Films’ for January 29th, 2016, and September 9th, 2016. The studio has delivered some solid horror entries over the years, but the breakout success of 2013’s The Conjuring elevated its interest in the genre to a new level. Now, it has Annabelle landing this October and The Conjuring 2 on the docket. Whether these new titles will be Conjuring-related or something new is anybody’s guess.
