Those who purchase a digital copy of Destiny on either of its supported last-gen consoles will be given a free gift, Bungie has announced. The present, itself, just so happens to be a free (downloadable) upgrade to one of the game’s current-gen versions. Pretty sweet, huh?

The idea here is to make it easier for, and provide incentive towards, those who plan to upgrade to a PS4 or Xbox One in the near future. It’s a nice treat for people in that boat, as it makes it so that they won’t need to fork over extra money for a new copy of Destiny once they purchase their new device.

It’s important to note the fine print though, which states that this offer is only available to those who buy the digital Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3 versions of the game. Furthermore, it’ll only work for gamers who stay within the same console family, meaning that you can’t upgrade from 360 to PS4. That’s a small caveat, though, when you consider that Bungie is not only allowing folks to transfer saves cross-gen, but also allowing them to redeem the same amount of content that they paid for when they do switch. What that means is that both the standard and Guardian editions will be transferrable digitally, as will the game’s expansion pass.

Last, but not least, is the fact that upgrading from one system to its successor won’t lock you out of playing last-gen Destiny. That is, if you will even want to do so.
