While it’s understood Hayley Atwell’s Peggy Carter will feature front and centre in her own show Agent Carter — set to hit the small screen midway through the season — a report by The Wrap has suggested that the fan favourite is also set to appear in the upcoming return of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D..

Exactly how the character will be written into the season two premiere of the show is currently unknown, and ABC weren’t prepared to spill the beans on whether fans will see Carter through flashback sequences or, in the vein of Winter Solider, in the present day. Either way, it shows a statement of intent on Marvel’s part and how it wishes to further align Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D.’s narrative with the overarching MCU.

In terms of the show’s anticipated return, the maiden episode of season two — entitled “Shadows” — will pick up exactly where Captain America: The Winter Soldier left off. Following the dismantling of the titular organisation, Clark Gregg’s Coulson and his whittling band of trustworthy allies are now considered wanted fugitives.

Joining Coulson for the sophomore season are newcomers Adrianne Palicki as Mockingbird, Kyle MacLachlan as Skye’s ambiguous father and Lucy Lawless as Isabelle Hartley. And though it’s not clear when these guest stars will appear on the show, it’ll be interesting to see how exactly the company weave the comic book personas into the main storyline.

We can expect the second season of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. to return on September 26th on ABC.
