Woman goes on her first-ever Hinge date with a professional basketball player. Then he suddenly asks if she ‘give head’: ‘my worst date’

A woman’s first-ever Hinge date didn’t end because of a bad conversation or an awkward silence, but because of how quickly things fell apart after nearly an hour of what she describes as a completely normal evening. By her telling, the date ended over the course of a single sentence on a street corner, right after she thought the night was going fine, and it remains what she calls “probably my worst date ever.”

In the video posted to TikTok by @bad.astra.yap, the woman said the date took place roughly five years ago, shortly after she downloaded the app for the first time. She matched with a man who told her he was a professional basketball player based in Europe. “First red flag,” she said, though she noted she didn’t clock it as one in the moment.

Since she was already working at a bar in her city that night, she suggested he meet her there rather than somewhere unfamiliar. “I’m at my work, so I’m like, I can just have him come here. I know everyone here. I feel safe. Like, I’ll have eyes on me, I’ll have eyes on him. It’ll be fine,” she said. 

The date seemed normal—until it wasn’t

She chose somewhere familiar because she knew the people around her, but that doesn’t necessarily mean a first date can’t take an unexpected turn. In one recent Hinge date that unraveled within 15 minutes at a Santa Monica farmers market, an initially ordinary meeting also went south fast.

By her account, the date itself started off unremarkable. They had a drink, made conversation, and he covered the bill. “There’s no, like, real red flag situation, like, popping out at me at the time,” she said. When he suggested a walk afterward, she agreed, saying she knew the city well enough not to think twice about it.

The walk went on for another 20 to 30 minutes before things shifted. At a corner, he pointed toward his vehicle. “Look, that’s my car over there,” she recalled him saying. Then, without any lead-up, he asked her a blunt, sexually explicit question, “do you give head?”

She said she answered, “Not to you.” That response, she claims, set him off immediately. He allegedly started cursing at her, called her a derogatory name and accused her of wasting his time before walking off, getting into his SUV and driving away. The sudden shift in his demeanor after she turned him down left little room to miss the signs that someone might not take rejection well.

One commenter wondered whether walking her toward his car had been his plan all along, writing, “Not to mention that that was his plan the whole time was to walk you to his car. Girl, you dodged a huge bullet. Crazy man.”

She said she reported him on Hinge afterward and went back to work, where she told her coworkers what happened. Instead of concern, she said, they teased her about it. 

The story drew a range of reactions in the comments. “some men don’t realize that women are actually a person. sorry that happened,” one person wrote. Another commenter argued that she had ignored an early warning sign, writing, “Sorry but you had a giant red flag when he said he was a professional athlete. Just saying the news is full of athletes acting badly because they’re athletes who treat their girlfriends like they’re toys.”
