It’s been a whooping fifteen years since the Wachowski siblings introduced us to the weird and wonderful green-tinged world of The Matrix, and its effects are still being felt to this day. For Slingshot Global Media has just announced plans to launch a new virtual reality TV series called New Angeles.
The project will take place in the not-so-distant future where a young naive man escapes the humdrum nature of everyday life by venturing into an alternate reality known only as New Angeles. As our protagonist follows the white rabbit further and further, he adopts a whole new identity that has repercussions that stretch between the two worlds.
According to Deadline, Slingshot Global Media are set to produce and distribute the project, with Roland Emmerich on board to direct the pilot episode — from there, he will join Keanu Reeves on the role of executive producer. The script will be written by best-selling novelist Gregg Hurwitz; a scribe in which Emmerich has the utmost confidence:
“Gregg is an incredibly imaginative writer, and I’m looking forward to bringing his ideas for the show to life. It’s exciting to get the opportunity bring a massive project like this to the small screen within a rapidly changing television space.”
At this stage, not much is known about the specifics of New Angeles — or when we can expect a launch date for the intriguing project. But we’ll be sure to keep you updated on the show as more information appears. In the meantime, let us know your thoughts on the sci-fi premise in the comments section below.
