First Trailer For Irish Comedy Standby Stars Mad Men’s Jessica Paré

Next spring, Mad Men fans will welcome the end of an era when the show bows with its seventh and final season — a time when we’ll find out the fate of our favorite characters, including Megan Calvet Draper herself, Jessica Paré. But for those who simply can’t wait for the return of the hit period show, an Irish romcom that goes by the name Standby could offer some respite.

Starring Love/Hate’s Brian Gleeson alongside Paré, Standby charts the story of Alan, an out of luck and out of love travel advisor who happens to cross paths with Alice (Paré) the night before she leaves Dublin airport. Eager to take his second chance at romance and turn the who who got away into the one who almost got away, Alan convinces her to stay one more night.

Sibling pair Rob and Ronan Burke — who have worked across numerous indie films such as Jellybaby — will direct the film, and it is due to premiere at the Cork Film Festival next month.

Standby will release in cinemas on November 14th, 2014. At this stage, there’s no word of an international release, but we’ll keep you updated should we hear more. Until then, you can have a gander at the official synopsis for the film below:

“Eight years previously, Alan and Alice had a romance which ended badly. Now every hotel room in Dublin is booked out. Despite initial frostiness Alan offers Alice a room in his house to stay the night. They will spend the evening getting to know each other again. Both will tell lies about how well the last eight years have gone, however gradually, they will come to realize that perhaps they are more compatible than they ever were before…”
